Gold-Plated Supercar Steals the Spotlight

A Gold-Coated Supercar Stole The Show at Sharjah Jewelry Exhibition
The 24-karat gold-plated, engraved 2014 Nissan GT-R, nicknamed “Gold-Zilla”, literally stole the show at the 55th Middle East Watch and Jewellery Show in Sharjah. The car, valued at over 1 million dollars, is not just a vehicle but a rolling artwork. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that every inch of it – from the hood, through the fenders, mirrors, doors, right to the rear – was engraved by hand, then coated in 24-karat gold. This masterpiece, by Japanese Kuhl Racing and artist Takahiko Izawa, took over 2,000 working hours to complete.
This car is not just an exhibition piece: under the hood roars a twin-turbo V6 engine that can deliver 850-900 horsepower and features a custom titanium exhaust, aftermarket wheels, and a widened body. Although Gold-Zilla is fully functional, it does not drive on roads; it is only shown at exhibitions and select showrooms. The interior also spares no expense: door handles, vents, and other interior elements are also adorned with gold. The car's purpose is not based on the value of raw materials or sales, but on celebrating craftsmanship and uniqueness.
The exhibition is much more than a gold car.
While Gold-Zilla attracted the most glances, the event at the Sharjah Expo Centre had a wealth that far exceeded this. This year's exhibition was larger and more diverse than ever, featuring more than 500 exhibitors from 26 countries, including about 90 new participants. The showcased jewelry was made of thousands of kilograms of gold, including traditional Arab styles alongside European, Indian, and other international designs. Platinum, white gold, silver pieces, and diamond jewelry also featured among the exhibits.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was the luxury watch collection, where rare and limited edition pieces drew the attention of watch collectors and enthusiasts. Organizers are proud that the exhibition enjoys growing interest year by year and is building a stronger reputation both regionally and internationally in the realms of luxury and craftsmanship.
With this event, Sharjah proves that the UAE is not only a hub of luxury and premium events through Dubai, but other emirates also actively contribute to this image. The jewelry exhibition serves both business clients (B2B) and end-users (B2C), providing an unparalleled platform for new connections, deals, and exclusive showcases.
