iPhone Pocket: Fashion Meets Technology

iPhone Pocket – an Unexpected Apple Surprise Bridging Fashion and Technology
On November 14, Apple introduces its newest special accessory, the iPhone Pocket—a product that stands out for being both functional and aesthetically pleasing, based on a deeply considered design concept. Crafted in Japan, this 3D-knit phone holder is not just another case, but a stylish carrying alternative for iPhone enthusiasts. Although it won’t officially be available in Apple Stores across the UAE, it will be accessible online for those who do not want to miss out on this limited edition item.
Inspired by a Piece of Cloth
For the design of the iPhone Pocket, Apple embarked on a special collaboration with the Japanese fashion house, Issey Miyake studio. The project was based on the “a piece of cloth” concept, which reinterprets the functionality of the brand’s iconic pleated garments within the realm of mobile phone accessories. The goal was not just to create a new case but to develop a carrying form that provides protection, comfort, and style simultaneously.
The design features a flexible, ribbed structure that allows space for not only the iPhone but also other everyday items—such as AirPods or smaller keys. Users can stretch the fabric to glimpse at the screen without removing the device. This solution elevates the user experience of accessories and clearly reflects Apple’s product design philosophy: simplicity, universality, and joy.
Distinctive Appearance and a Cavalcade of Colors
The appearance of the iPhone Pocket is characterized by a unique style at first glance. It is available with two types of straps: the short version comes in eight colors (lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, black), while the long model is available in three (sapphire, cinnamon, black). This allows users to customize combinations according to their iPhone models' color and everyday wardrobe.
The assembly of the color palette was conscientiously created to match Apple’s current device portfolio. The clean shape not only is aesthetically pleasing but also reflects the shared design intention of Issey Miyake and Apple: an object that is at once aesthetic, practical, and does not define itself excessively—allowing room for user interpretation.
Multifunctional Use, Customizable Solutions
Apple did not want to market a simple phone case, but rather a new experience. The iPhone Pocket can be used handheld, attached to a bag, or even worn on the body—hung around the neck, crossbody, or slid onto a belt. The product reflects Issey Miyake’s fashion philosophy: the freedom to enjoy technology in one’s own style, in one’s own form.
Thanks to the flexible, transparent material, the iPhone display is partially visible, allowing users to quickly glance at notifications without removing it from the case. This is particularly useful during travel or work situations where quick accessibility is paramount.
Where Will the iPhone Pocket Be Available?
Although the iPhone Pocket will be available in Apple Stores for a limited time, it will not be sold in official stores in the United Arab Emirates. This means that Apple fans in Dubai or Abu Dhabi can only obtain it through online orders—and only if they travel to a country where stock is available. Such countries include Japan, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, South Korea, or China.
The price for the short-strap version is $149.95, while the long-strap version costs $229.95. Given its limited edition nature, timely decisions are advisable as the most popular color variants might quickly sell out due to expected demand.
Apple and Issey Miyake: The Revival of a Legendary Connection
This collaboration is not without precedent: the designer of the Issey Miyake fashion house played a role in the early iPhone presentations, with Steve Jobs’s iconic black turtleneck also deriving from this Japanese brand. Although the current collection takes on a completely different form, it still reminds us of a period when Apple and the fashion world first intersected.
The new iPhone Pocket is the modern embodiment of this relationship. An accessory that links technology and design without becoming intrusive or overly ornate. Simple, yet characterful, universal, yet customizable—as we’ve come to expect from Apple.
Summary: Carrying the iPhone in a New Form
The iPhone Pocket is not for everyone. It is designed for those who appreciate unique solutions, value quality, and find it important that technology offers both practicality and an aesthetic experience. The joint development by Apple and Issey Miyake is yet another step along the path where utility objects become instruments of personal expression.
Although it won't officially be available in Dubai, international travelers and design enthusiasts will surely keep an eye on the limited series—especially those for whom the iPhone is more than a device: a part of a lifestyle.
