Family Travel Renaissance in the UAE

The Renaissance of Family Trips in the UAE: Pursuing Multigenerational Holidays, Passions, and New Experiences
Residents of the United Arab Emirates are increasingly reimagining the concept of travel. It is no longer just about relaxation – travel has now become a tool to strengthen family bonds, deepen hobbies, discover new cultures, or even enhance skincare routines. The latest Travel Trends report by Skyscanner for 2026 clearly outlines the directions impacting the travel decisions of UAE residents in the coming year – directions that are much more personal and emotionally layered than ever before.
Multigenerational Trips: When Grandparents Also Pack Up
According to the report, 41 percent of UAE residents plan to travel with their family in 2026, and not only with their immediate family but with grandparents as well. This figure represents a strong increase, as only 31 percent mentioned participating in multigenerational vacations in the past two years.
The driving force behind this is the fast-paced everyday life that leaves little room for togetherness. Travel – especially when well-planned and accommodating all age groups – provides an opportunity to reconnect. Beach holidays, cooler mountain vacations, or even city visits offer the perfect framework for family members to experience new adventures together.
Increase in International Travels
Sixty-one percent of respondents plan to make more international trips in 2026 than in 2025. This also shows that travel has become a defining element of life quality. Trips organized around Eid and other holidays are becoming more frequent, particularly popular in Europe, Africa, parts of the Middle East, and Asia. During the summer heat, many seek cooler climate destinations, while the winter break provides an opportunity for more shared experiences.
Accommodation as a Destination
UAE travelers increasingly choose destinations based on accommodation quality. According to the survey, 76 percent have decided on a city or region simply due to the quality, location, or atmosphere of the accommodation. This trend reflects a shift towards “experience-based travel,” where not only sights or programs matter, but also where the traveler rests, sleeps, and relaxes.
Skincare and Beauty – New Motivations
An unexpected but very telling statistic is that 55 percent of the adult population in the UAE have purchased beauty products during international travel, while 45 percent plan to specifically visit cosmetic shops or partake in treatments in 2026. This is partly due to price differences, with 37 percent saying certain services are cheaper abroad than at home.
Trips focused on skincare could form a unique category in the future – wellness hotels, thermal spas, holistic centers, and medical cosmetic treatments might become part of family or individual travel itineraries.
Literature, Reading, and Passions
Over 70 percent of travelers believe reading is an integral part of the travel experience. Furthermore, 78 percent have already considered visiting places inspired by literary works. Trips inspired by cities, historical events, or characters from novels may grow in popularity, giving tourism a new direction – experiences with much deeper personal meaning.
Mountain Vacations and Hiking
A healthier lifestyle, the desire for fresh air, and closeness to nature draw many to the mountains. Ninety-two percent of UAE residents are considering a summer or autumn mountain trip, while 31 percent specifically plan hiking excursions. Such trips offer both physical and mental rejuvenation, especially for those switching from desert environments to cooler, greener landscapes.
Connecting with Local Culture via Supermarkets
Exploring eating habits and local flavors also serves as a major motivation. Eighty-three percent of respondents frequently or always visit local grocery stores to discover the uniqueness of a culture. Gastronomic experiences, primarily through trying authentic dishes (which 44 percent find particularly important), provide a genuine insight into local life – often more so than a museum visit or city tour.
Seeking New Connections
Another exciting finding is that 82 percent of UAE residents have considered meeting new people while traveling. Thirty-two percent are especially open to meeting those from different cultures. This openness can result in friendships, business opportunities, and cultural exchanges.
Summary
Today, travel is not just about changing locations; it is also about an internal journey. UAE residents are making increasingly conscious travel choices – whether it’s reconnecting with grandparents, traveling inspired by a literary experience, or combining relaxation with skincare. Trends show that personal connection, relation, and health play an increasingly significant role in decision-making. 2026 promises a new era in travel – where the destination is not just a place, but an experience, community, and inspiration.
