Dubai Mall Redefines Shopping Experience

Dubai's iconic shopping center, the Mall of the Emirates, has reached a major milestone: on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, a spectacular expansion of the complex was announced, which will be realized as part of the 2030 vision. The aim is to create a space that goes beyond the traditional shopping experience—a true experience center where interactive entertainment, culinary delights, and well-being play a prominent role.
5 Billion Dirham Transformation
The total investment of the project is 5 billion dirhams, of which 1.1 billion has already been used for preparations. According to the plans, the Mall of the Emirates will expand with 100 new stores, a brand new theater, as well as new indoor and outdoor dining zones. Visitors are increasingly seeking the "more than shopping" experience—this new, multisensory concept is intended to meet that demand.
New Gastronomic and Entertainment Hub
The new part of the mall will be a flexible indoor-outdoor space where dynamic fast-food outlets and interactive entertainment elements will be located. The complex's first outdoor F&B (food and beverages) courtyard will open at the beginning of 2027, functioning as a green oasis during the cooler months. According to the owner's announcement, the offering will also be expanded with exclusive restaurants that further elevate the visitor experience.
Theater, Cinema, and New Attractions from 2025
The trial launch of the New Covent Garden Theatre is expected in mid-2025, which will officially open later that year. The theater will have a capacity of 600 people and will also have rehearsal rooms. Additionally, by the end of 2026, four new entertainment attractions will be introduced, alongside the launch of the world's most advanced IMAX movie experience with VOX Cinemas.
Reimagining the West End District
The investment also includes the complete renewal of the West End commercial and community district. The goal is to create a modern, bustling social space that welcomes visitors with outstanding design and modern services.
Why is this Development Significant?
Two decades ago, the Mall of the Emirates set a new standard in the region for trade and entertainment. Now, the owner is investing in the future: not just new building wings and stores are being born, but new lifestyle elements that allow people to connect, relax, and draw inspiration—all in one place.
The Owner's Background
The company overseeing the development is no newcomer to the market: it owns and operates more than 29 shopping centers, 7 hotels, and 5 mixed-use communities. They serve over 600 million visitors annually, with a portfolio worth 19 billion dollars and employ more than 43,000 people worldwide.
Summary
The expansion of the Mall of the Emirates is not just about shopping. It's a transformation that rethinks the centers of urban life: we will not only go there to shop, but also to watch theater performances, go to the movies, enjoy the latest culinary trends, or meet friends. This is one of the keys to Dubai's future—a modern, experience-based city center that will truly be a shopping center of new opportunities.
