UAE Unveils Innovative Dh100 Polymer Banknote

UAE Introduces New Polymer Dh100 Banknote - Innovation and Sustainability
The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has once again taken a pivotal step in financial innovation by releasing the new polymer-based Dh100 banknote into circulation starting March 24, 2024. This new currency piece not only represents a modern design and advanced security technology but also showcases the UAE's economic and cultural heritage.
Features of the Banknote
The new Dh100 banknote shines in shades of red, maintaining the color scheme of the previous denomination. The design recognizes the UAE's national brand and includes advanced printing techniques that ensure protection against counterfeiting.
Front Side: The Um Al Quwain National Fort
One side of the new banknote features the Um Al Quwain National Fort, symbolizing the UAE's rich history and cultural heritage. This historical landmark serves as a bridge between the past and the present.
Back Side: Fujairah Port and Etihad Rail
The reverse side of the banknote is dominated by Fujairah Port, one of the country's largest ports, playing a key role in international trade. Additionally, the Etihad Rail network is depicted, which connects the UAE's seven emirates and links with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries. This rail project plays a prominent role in sustainable economic development and social cohesion enhancement.
Advanced Security Technologies
CBUAE has placed significant emphasis on the protection of the banknote, incorporating innovative solutions such as:
SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS - a dynamic color-changing security feature,
KINEGRAM COLORS - a multi-color changing hologram chip,
Braille markings - specifically embossed points for visually impaired users.
Why Polymer Banknote?
Polymer-based banknotes offer several advantages over traditional paper money:
More Durable - circulate for up to two to three times longer,
Environmentally Friendly - require fewer raw materials for production,
Easier to Verify - advanced security elements make them more difficult to counterfeit.
UAE's Financial Innovation
This new banknote is part of CBUAE's Third National Currency Issuance Program, aimed at showcasing the UAE's economic and cultural success. CBUAE has previously won the "Best New Banknote" award at the High-Security Printing EMEA conferences in 2023 and 2025 for the Dh500 and Dh1000 polymer denominations, which also stand out for their unique design and technical solutions.
The new Dh100 polymer banknote represents not only the triumph of modern technology but also reflects the UAE's commitment to sustainability and financial innovation. The banknote's design connects the country's past, present, and future while strengthening its position in the global economy.
