UAE Citizens in Japan: Visa-Free 90 Days

UAE Citizens in Japan: Visa-Free Stay Extended to 90 Days
Diplomatic relations between the UAE and Japan have reached another significant milestone: effective July 1, 2025, UAE citizens will be able to stay in Japan visa-free for up to 90 days, an extension from the previous 30 days. This means visitors with a valid ICAO-standard biometric passport can now enjoy Japanese hospitality for up to three months without needing to apply for a visa.
This decision is particularly beneficial for those traveling for tourism, business, or visiting relatives and friends. The UAE embassy in Tokyo emphasized that the visa exemption applies only to short-term stays, meaning it does not extend to long-term employment or study purposes.
Why is this innovation important?
Japan has always been a popular destination for UAE residents, whether it's to admire the sakura blossoms, study advanced technological innovations, or explore the rich cultural heritage. The longer stay option allows for more flexible travel plans and strengthens the friendly and economic ties between the two nations.
Interestingly, UAE citizens aren't the only ones benefiting from visa exemption: in 2024, the UAE introduced a similar measure for Japanese citizens, allowing them to stay in the UAE visa-free for up to 90 days with a valid passport.
What travelers need to know?
To qualify for visa exemption, UAE citizens must:
possess a valid, ICAO-compliant biometric passport,
be traveling solely for tourist, business, or family/friend visits,
not be entering for long-term employment or study.
Summary
This 90-day visa-free stay opens new horizons for UAE travelers in Japan, whether for extended trips, exploring business opportunities, or gaining cultural experiences. This step further strengthens the bonds between the two countries and clearly demonstrates the UAE and Japan's commitment to mutual understanding and cooperation.
