UAE Battles Both Heat and Rain

Changeable Weather in UAE: Rain, Dust Storm, and Extreme Heat All at Once
Residents of the United Arab Emirates can expect a slight respite from the summer heat, as rain is forecasted for several parts of the country on Friday, July 18. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the changeable weather may affect various regions, including Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Ajman.
Local Showers and Cumulus Clouds
Earlier this week, precipitation was already experienced in multiple areas across the UAE: on Tuesday and Wednesday, showers and hail occurred, particularly in the northern emirates. Similar phenomena may repeat this Friday, especially in the eastern regions, where convective (resulting from vertical air movements) cloud formation is expected in the afternoon, accompanied by rain. For instance, light rain fell early in the morning in the Dubai Lehbab region, which the NCM confirmed.
Dusty Winds and Slightly Choppy Sea
Although the rainfall may bring temporary relief, the strengthening mild-moderate winds during the day can stir up dust clouds, especially in open, desert areas. This not only can worsen visibility but also pose challenges for those with respiratory issues. However, the sea remains calm: only slight waves are expected in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea.
Extreme Temperature Levels
A common feature of the country's weather is that, despite the rain and wind, one can still expect extremely high temperatures. Forecasts suggest that in certain parts of Abu Dhabi, the daily peak temperature could reach 48°C, while in some areas of Ras Al Khaimah, the air may cool down to as low as 26°C by dawn—quite low for this season.
What to Watch for in the Coming Days?
Transportation: Due to sudden showers and dusty winds, visibility may worsen, so it is advisable to drive with increased caution.
Health: Large temperature fluctuations, high UV radiation, and dust stirred up by the wind can be hazardous, especially for the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses. Adequate hydration and limiting outdoor activities are recommended.
Beach and Sea Activities: While the sea is calm, the wind might pick up unexpectedly, so it is wise to keep an eye on official warnings.
The weather continues to remind us that UAE's climate is extremely dynamic: the summer heat is frequently interspersed with daily rain showers, sandstorms, and moderated temperatures. It's essential to keep up-to-date with NCM reports, especially for those planning outdoor events or extended travel.
