Traffic Disruptions Alert in Dubai: Key Route Closures

Traffic Restrictions Between Dubai and Sharjah – Road Closures Along Emirates Road and E311
Significant road maintenance works took place on the morning of June 15, Sunday, in Dubai, which could affect drivers traveling on Emirates Road and the E311, also known as the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) implemented periodic lane closures, particularly on busy sections leading towards Sharjah.
Where have the closures occurred?
On the Emirates Road, near the Maleha Street junction, three out of five lanes were temporarily closed, which could have resulted in significant traffic congestion for vehicles heading towards Sharjah. This restriction is expected to last until 6 PM for the maintenance work to be carried out safely.
Additionally, a partial closure occurred on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road: the exit 64 leading to the Industrial Areas and the Al Khan area was closed from 12:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Although this closure was nearing completion, disruptions could still be anticipated in the area.
Why were the closures necessary?
These interventions are linked to Dubai's long-term infrastructure development program. The RTA emphasized that these works are intended to improve traffic safety and the quality of the road network. The maintenance aims not only to restore the condition of the pavement but also to prevent future traffic congestion.
What can motorists do?
The transport authority advises drivers to always check the current traffic situation before setting off and, if necessary, choose alternative routes. The RTA’s official social media platforms and mobile applications provide real-time information on closures and congestion.
Additionally, it is important for everyone to drive with increased caution on the affected sections, adhere to speed limits, and ensure the safety of the maintenance personnel.
What can be expected in the coming weeks?
The current works are only part of a broader renovation and expansion program, so similar closures are expected during the summer months. The authority’s goal is to cause as little disruption as possible, but it is advisable to plan travels more flexibly during this period.
In summary, the patience and foresight of commuters are crucial to minimizing traffic disruptions. The RTA aims to provide a more efficient and safer road network in the long run, improving accessibility in both the Sharjah and Dubai directions.
