Sharjah's Traffic: From Stress to Ease

How Sharjah's Travel Times Dropped From 20 to 3 Minutes
Residents in Sharjah, particularly in the districts of Al Tawoon, Al Majaz, Al Khan, and Al Mamzar, can now breathe a sigh of relief as a new traffic diversion has significantly alleviated the stress caused by daily commutes. The new route opened on Al Tawoon Street has radically reduced traffic congestion, shortening travel times by up to 25 minutes during peak hours.
What Caused the Problem?
Previously, the sole exit from Al Ittihad Road to Al Tawoon Street led to severe traffic jams, especially during evening hours. The line of vehicles frequently stretched all the way back to Nesto Supermarket, forcing motorists heading towards Al Khan or Al Mamzar to make U-turns at the roundabout, further exacerbating the situation.
The Impact of the New Route
However, the introduction of the new traffic diversion dramatically improved conditions. A resident of Delma Tower in Al Tawoon enthusiastically shared their experience of the change:
"I used to crawl in traffic for up to 20 minutes to reach my building. My journey home from my office in Al Quoz used to take a total of 60-75 minutes. Recently, I noticed I'm moving much faster, and I realized it's due to the new diversion. Now I'm home in just 3-4 minutes after entering Sharjah."
After Years of Waiting
A resident of Al Khan Tower and sales manager at Koncept Creation also shared their experience:
"Traffic on Al Tawoon Street was unbearable almost all day, except late at night. I usually leave my Business Bay office around 6 PM, but by the time I reach Sharjah, I'm caught in a long line of cars. My apartment is just a few hundred meters from the border, yet it took more than 20 minutes to get home. Now I'm home in three minutes. This simple change has completely transformed my daily routine."
Time and Fuel Savings
In addition to saving time, many residents have noticed decreased fuel costs. A resident of the Central Tower in the heart of Al Khan commented:
"I work in the Dubai Investment Park, and previously the commute was extremely exhausting, especially entering Sharjah. I spent 20-30 minutes a day in unnecessary slow traffic, consuming a lot of fuel. Now, with smooth traffic, I'm saving a significant amount on fuel each month."
What Could Be Next?
Thanks to the success of the new route, many residents hope for similar traffic-reducing measures to be implemented in other busy areas of Sharjah.
"The city is continuously growing, and with it, the traffic is increasing. The authorities did a great job with this new route, but we hope they will also pay attention to other problematic intersections," they added.
Summary
This traffic innovation has not only shortened travel times but has significantly improved the quality of life for residents of Sharjah. Less time in cars, lower fuel costs, and less stress—all thanks to a well-planned traffic diversion. Such developments give hope that the future of urban transportation will be much smoother and more livable in the UAE's dynamically growing cities.
