Sharjah Students Offered Free Driver’s Licenses

Free Driver's License for Top Sharjah Students
Sharjah has announced a new initiative that emphasizes the importance of education while also supporting the independence of young people: the top ten performing students from public secondary schools can obtain their driver's licenses for free. The program, named 'License of Excellence', aims to assist the first steps of outstanding students on their path towards university and professional life.
What does the 'free driver's license' program entail?
The initiative fully covers all costs associated with obtaining a driver's license, including:
administrative fees (opening a client account),
the optical eligibility examination,
the costs of theoretical and practical training,
as well as the fees for exams and the issuing of documents.
The program is a result of joint efforts by the Sharjah Police Vehicle and Driver’s License Department, the Ministry of Education, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Sharjah Driving Institute, and the Belhasa Driving Institute.
Another benefit – for the children of police employees
Another offer, called 'License for the Committed Children's', has also been launched, aimed at the children of Sharjah police employees. Under this scheme, a 50 percent discount is offered for driving courses during the summer break. The discounted package provides an opportunity for the family members of law enforcement officers to obtain a driver's license in a safe and affordable way.
Building a culture of safe driving starts young
The initiatives in Sharjah aim not only to recognize young people or support police employees but also to shape long-term attitudes. The cooperation between government bodies and educational institutions is based on the idea that it's worth establishing a traffic safety culture from teenage years.
The 'License of Excellence' for the selected young people means more than just obtaining a driver's license; it's an important opportunity for independence, taking responsibility, and building their future.
The age limit changed in UAE
According to the new traffic regulations, it's now possible to acquire a driver's license in the UAE from the age of 17. Previously, it was 18 years, so the new regulation opens new doors for young people – especially for those who can now participate in a completely free driver's license program due to their outstanding academic achievements.
