Sharjah Residents Celebrate New Gas Network

Residents of Sharjah's Neighborhoods Find Relief: No More Heavy Gas Cylinders to Lift
In Sharjah city, a significant advancement has been made in the development of energy services: residents of the Al Qutainah neighborhood no longer need to rely on traditional LPG gas cylinders as the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has built pipelines connecting to the city’s natural gas network. This change not only provides a more convenient solution but also a much safer one for households.
As part of the Al Qutainah 1 project completed by SEWA, an 18-kilometer network of pipelines has been constructed, already supplying natural gas to more than 350 homes. According to the agency, 53% of the network in the affected area is completed, with remaining sections steadily progressing. The total investment in the project exceeds 1.7 million dirhams.
Why is this such a significant advancement?
Residents around Al Qutainah have been waiting for modernization to reach their district for many years. Using gas cylinders is not only inconvenient—as they are heavy and refilling and transporting them is cumbersome—but also poses significant safety risks. In summer, when temperatures soar, leaks from cylinders can even cause tragic accidents. In Dubai, for instance, there were recently two different fire incidents, one of which was proven to be caused by a leaking restaurant gas cylinder.
Future Plans
SEWA’s clear goal is to connect every residential and commercial area of Sharjah to the natural gas network. The organization's engineers and experts are not only meeting current demands but are also planning future infrastructure with foresight. In the coming months, Al Suyoh, Al Hoshi, and Al Rahmaniya neighborhoods will also be connected to the network, with the construction of new pumping stations and distribution pipelines. These areas are among the fastest-growing residential zones in Sharjah, making the expansion of energy services essential.
Safety, Reliability, Comfort
SEWA emphasizes that every project is implemented according to international safety and quality standards. The aim is not only to provide residents with more convenient access to energy but also to ensure the service is reliable, sustainable, and safe. Such investments contribute to the long-term stability of the emirate’s energy supply.
Residents of the Al Qutainah neighborhood already praise the changes. Many highlighted how seamless the transition from gas cylinders to piped natural gas has been and how significant a relief it is no longer to worry about supply or handling of cylinders.
Summary
Sharjah’s energy sector has reached another milestone: thanks to the joint efforts of the city administration and SEWA, more neighborhoods are benefiting from modern, safe, and efficient natural gas services. In the future, more districts may join this network, making residents’ lives increasingly comfortable and secure. This advancement not only enhances everyday comfort but also supports the city’s long-term sustainability goals.
