Changes in Sharjah's Paid Parking System: Extended Hours, New Zones

The city of Sharjah, the UAE's cultural emirate, has implemented significant changes in its paid parking system in the last quarter of 2024. These changes aim to make better use of parking infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion. The new regulations include extended parking hours, the introduction of new parking zones, and the extension of parking fees to additional areas of the city.

Parking Signs and Subscription Options

Sharjah's parking spaces are marked with blue and white curbs, complemented by easily visible signs indicating conditions of use and pricing. Drivers have the option to pay daily fees, or they can opt for a subscription parking system. Subscriptions are available for individuals with full city coverage or limited to two specific areas. Business subscriptions are valid citywide. Subscription fees vary depending on the type of service requested.

1. Seven-Day Parking Zones with Extended Hours

In October 2024, it was announced that certain parking zones in Sharjah will operate seven days a week, with extended chargeable periods. Under the new regulation, which came into effect on November 1, 2024, parking fees must be paid from 8:00 AM to midnight, compared to the previous 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM slot.

The seven-day parking zones are indicated by blue parking signs, and these areas require payment every day of the week, including public holidays. Motorists can settle their parking fees via an SMS-based payment system.

2. Introduction of Parking Fees in Al Dhaid

Starting January 1, 2025, parking fees will be required in the city of Al Dhaid, Sharjah. The parking fee is applicable from Saturday to Thursday, between 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

Drivers are not required to pay parking fees on Fridays, except in certain designated areas where payments are mandatory every day, including official holidays.

3. Implementation of Parking Fees in Kalba City

The municipality of Kalba city will implement a paid parking system starting February 2025. The fee schedule applies from Saturday to Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Similarly to Al Dhaid, parking in Kalba is free on Fridays, except in zones where payment is required every day, including holidays.

Why Pay Attention to These Changes?

The new parking system contributes to more efficient traffic management in the city and reduces congestion in central areas. The subscription options offer a convenient solution for those who regularly use the parking facilities.

Summary

Sharjah's parking system has undergone significant transformation recently. The introduction of new zones and extended charging hours affect both local residents and tourists. The new regulations aim to simplify and make parking management more efficient, though drivers should be informed in advance about specific pricing and applicable rules.
