Sharjah Literary Festival Celebrates Emirati Stories
Sharjah Literary Festival: "Emirati Stories Inspire the Future"
For those interested in cultural events, the beginning of 2025 presents a special opportunity to explore the literary heritage and future of the Emirates. Sharjah will host the first Sharjah Literary Festival (SLF) from January 17 to 25 under the motto "Emirati Stories Inspire the Future." The event aims to showcase the Emirates' rich literary and cultural traditions while inspiring future generations.
Royal Support in the Name of Culture
The event is under the patronage of Sharjah's ruler, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi. Sheikha Bodour, the chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority and honorary president of the Emirates Publishers Association, has long supported promoting literature and spreading reading culture in the United Arab Emirates.
Joint Organization with Publishers' Involvement
The event is jointly organized by the Emirates Publishers' Association (EPA) and the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), bringing together local and international literary stakeholders. The venue will be the open space in front of the University City Hall, suitable for accommodating the multitude of visitors attending the festival.
Programs and Events
The festival welcomes visitors daily from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The programs include:
- Author-reader meetings: Emirati and international authors discuss their works, inspirations, and the future of literature.
- Workshops and interactive sessions: Visitors have the opportunity to delve into creative writing, illustration, or storytelling techniques.
- Cultural lectures and panel discussions: Renowned experts share their thoughts on the development of Arabic literature and its global impact.
- Children's Programs: SLF places great emphasis on involving children, as preserving the literary and cultural heritage of the future is in their hands.
The Significance of the Festival
Sharjah has long been known for its commitment to literature and culture. In 2019, UNESCO named Sharjah the "Cultural Capital of the Arab World," and it has since supported this heritage with outstanding events. The first edition of SLF is another milestone on this path, providing an opportunity to highlight the literary talents of the Emirates and connect with the international community.
Practical Information
Visitors can easily access the event's location in Sharjah city. Admission to most programs is free, making this unique cultural experience accessible to all. Literature enthusiasts should mark this date on their calendars, as the festival promises to provide an unforgettable experience.
Inspiration for Future Generations
The SLF not only presents stories from the past to visitors but also offers a glimpse into the future. By showcasing the literary heritage of the Emirates and encouraging the creativity of the youth, Sharjah once again demonstrates its leadership role on the cultural stage of the Arab world.
