Record Sale: Rare Plate Fetches Millions

Record Price for Rare License Plate at Dubai Charity Auction
Dubai has once again proven to have one of the world's most unique and exclusive auction markets. At an extravagant charity event, an exceptionally rare vehicle license plate, "DD 6," was sold for an astounding 37 million dirhams, becoming the most expensive item of the evening. The event was not just about luxury and prestige, but also served to support a global charity initiative aiming to help malnourished children in different parts of the world.
The city of Dubai has long been known for the incredible value placed on rare license plates and phone numbers. These number combinations often serve as status symbols and denote a certain social rank. License plates with few characters, easily memorable by wealthy buyers, are particularly sought after. The "DD 6" plate fits perfectly into this category: short, simple, yet an extremely rare combination.
Intense Bidding War
The "DD 6" license plate attracted enormous interest immediately during the auction. As soon as it appeared on the screen, bidders quickly raised their paddles in succession. The bid skyrocketed to staggering heights within a short time. Following the initial amounts, the price reached several tens of millions of dirhams within minutes.
The tension and excitement in the room were palpable. Bidders competed fiercely to acquire this special plate. Ultimately, the price settled at 37 million dirhams, which drew huge applause from the audience. When the word "sold" appeared on the display, celebratory confetti fell in the room, marking one of the night's greatest moments.
The plate became the auction's most valuable item, exemplifying how incredible value can be placed on unique number combinations in Dubai's luxury market.
Other Rare Plates Sold for Millions
The auction was not just about one record-breaking sale. Several other plates also sparked significant interest among bidders.
One plate that garnered major attention was "DD 99." Starting at just 1 million dirhams, the interest quickly drove the price up. In mere seconds, the price surpassed 8 million dirhams, with the final bid hitting 8.9 million dirhams.
Also drawing considerable interest was the "DD 25" plate, which started at 4 million dirhams. After several rounds of bidding, it was sold for 6.4 million dirhams.
Two other plates, "DD 100" and "DD 999," also fetched remarkable prices, each selling for 5.1 million dirhams, demonstrating the premium value these rare number combinations command in the Dubai auction scene.
Dubai's license plates have long held a special status and serve as investment assets for many collectors. The value of certain plates increases annually, especially those with short or easy-to-recognize number combinations.
Phone Numbers Fetch High Prices
The event auctioned not only license plates but also premium phone numbers, which hold great prestige in Dubai's social and business circles.
The most expensive phone number of the night was "058 0000000," selling for 4.5 million dirhams. The bidding quickly surpassed the million-dirham mark, reaching several million dirhams in a short period.
Other special numbers also found new owners. The "058 0000007" number sold for 350 thousand dirhams, while the "058 0000003" number was acquired for 300 thousand dirhams.
Another phone number, "050 0000024," started at a mere 30 thousand dirhams but ended up selling for 200 thousand dirhams.
The "050 0000063" number sold for 150 thousand dirhams, whereas the "050 0000012" ultimately found a new owner for 500 thousand dirhams.
These amounts underscore that special phone numbers are considered valuable status symbols, just like rare license plates.
Luxury and Charity in One Event
The auction's purpose, however, wasn't only to achieve record prices. The event was organized to support a global charity initiative focused on combating malnutrition.
The program aims to provide life-saving assistance to millions of children around the world who suffer from severe malnutrition. The initiative seeks to offer long-term support for healthcare programs, food aid, and development projects.
During the event, an international development foundation made a significant commitment: over the next five years, they plan to provide $100 million in support for anti-malnutrition programs.
Malnutrition is one of the biggest barriers to human development worldwide. It not only severely affects health but also limits children's future opportunities. Therefore, long-term solutions include not just food aid but also healthcare, education, and community development.
Dubai's Unique Auction Culture
Over the past decades, Dubai has developed a unique auction culture where luxury, prestige, and charity often intersect. Auctions of rare license plates and phone numbers are special events that regularly attract significant media and business attention.
These auctions serve both to display social status and to support community goals. For participants, it's not just about acquiring an exclusive item but also contributing to an important cause.
The 37 million dirham price for the "DD 6" plate has once again demonstrated that Dubai can host events focused on luxury, prestige, and charity. Such auctions not only break records but also provide real help to some of the world's most needy communities.
