A Mother Who Never Gave Up

Maye divorced her husband, Errol Musk, in 1979 and raised her three children on her own. It was a challenging period for her as she had to manage both as a mother and a professional. "When I divorced, I had to quickly start my own practice," Maye recounted. She earned two master's degrees in science while completing hospital practice. "We lived in a one-bedroom apartment, and my children helped with everything. Elon was my encyclopedia and tech expert, Kimbal cooked, and Tosca handled phone calls and typed medical reports."

Elon Musk, the Visionary

According to Maye, Elon Musk possessed an exceptional ability to recognize future needs even as a child. "He doesn’t do things to defy convention," said Maye. "He works to make the world better. For example, when he started Zip2, it was online mapping, which was a fantastic help because we previously navigated only with maps. Then came PayPal to send money via email. Tesla followed to make electric cars."

Maye believes Elon’s innovations have always served the greater good, as with the development of the Cybertruck. "He said the Cybertruck could save lives in forests, mountain peaks, or the ocean. Now they are used in Los Angeles fire incidents as well. Elon always sees the needs in advance and works to find solutions."

Unique Childhood Experiences

Maye reminisced about when Elon first told her about his space projects. "I thought it was a cute idea but didn’t understand why it was needed," she said with a laugh. During her speech at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Maye’s humorous and insightful remarks were well-received by the audience.

Leading by Example

Maye Musk also emphasized that she always let her children choose their own paths. "When I was in Toronto as a researcher, I wanted them to study free because I worked at the university," she said. "But they chose different fields, so they had to take their own loans to study what they wanted. They eventually paid off this debt and became successful."

Kimbal Musk is now a chef and entrepreneur, while Tosca Musk is a filmmaker and co-founder of the OTT platform Passionflix. Maye added that although all three of her children became millionaires, they were never driven by money. "They always focused on doing good, invested in their own businesses, which then became successful."
