New Dubai Bridges Slash Travel Time Significantly

Dubai main road

The RTA has inaugurated two new major bridges as part of the Garn Al Sabkha – Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection development project. This new step could reduce travel time on the road by up to 70%—it seems like a dream, but it is now a reality.

The bridges are opening towards Al Qusais and Jebel Ali. The first is a 2-lane bridge, 601 meters long, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It serves traffic eastbound from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road northward towards Al Qusais and Deira.

It's estimated that the bridge will reduce travel time during peak hours from 20 minutes to 12 minutes, a total reduction of 40%.

The second is also a 2-lane bridge, approximately 664 meters long, directing traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road southward towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. This bridge accommodates 3,200 vehicles per hour, eliminating traffic overlap from this direction.

With this, travel time is expected to decrease from 21 minutes to 7 minutes, marking a full 70% reduction.

A third and final bridge in the project will open soon, in October. This bridge will ease transportation between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The bridge will be 943 meters long, with two lanes in both directions, capable of handling a total of 8,000 vehicles per hour.

As part of the development project, new street lighting, traffic signs, traffic management systems, rainwater drainage networks, and irrigation systems will also be added to the road network in this area.
