Mild Quake Shakes UAE’s Al Sila Region

Mild Earthquake Shakes Al Sila Region in UAE - Residents Felt It
According to a report by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was registered in the UAE, in the Al Sila region, early Thursday morning, at 00:03 local time. The tremor was lightly felt by residents, however, it did not cause significant damage or injuries.
The NCM's statement emphasized that the phenomenon was localized, and some of the residents in the area only felt mild vibrations. Data about the earthquake's depth and exact epicenter were recorded, indicating that the event did not jeopardize public safety, and there was no need for evacuation or extraordinary measures.
Interestingly, just two days earlier, on Tuesday, a magnitude 2 earthquake was measured in the Khor Fakkan region. The locals could also feel this tremor, but it caused no damage.
Earthquakes are rare in the UAE and are generally less intense than those in more seismically active regions. Nevertheless, authorities continually monitor such events because meteorological and seismological research is crucial for maintaining public safety. The NCM's advanced network of measuring stations covers the entire country, allowing for the rapid and accurate detection of tremors and informing the public accordingly.
This recent mild tremor serves as a reminder that natural seismic events can occur even in a country with a stable geological background. Experts say that these mild tremors are mostly harmless but help researchers better understand the region's geological conditions and prepare for potentially stronger tremors.
