Flydubai's Onboard Internet Revolution

Flydubai Introduces Starlink Wi-Fi: A New Era in Onboard Connectivity
From 2026, onboard internet connectivity will reach a new level on flights of Dubai-based airline flydubai. Announced at the Dubai Airshow 2025, flydubai and SpaceX have entered into a collaboration, which will see the installation of SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet system on the airline's Boeing 737 fleet. The goal of this development is to provide unparalleled rapid and low-latency internet service onboard, marking a significant advancement in the world of commercial aviation.
Speed, Reliability, and Real-Time Experience
One of the biggest advantages of Starlink technology is its performance in speed and latency. The satellite system is not only suitable for web browsing but is also capable of HD-level video streaming, real-time video calls, and even running online games, which was previously unimaginable onboard a passenger aircraft. flydubai promises a seamless, high-performance digital experience for passengers in the air, as if they were on the ground.
Simple and Fast Installation
The airline aims to equip the majority of its fleet with this technology by 2026. The installation of Starlink systems is exceptionally fast: measured in hours, not days or weeks, thus not disrupting scheduled operations. The initial phase plans to integrate the system into 100 aircraft, positioning flydubai among those airlines that not only offer service but also are technological innovators.
Competition Isn't Absent: Emirates Also Moves
Interestingly, following the announcement, Emirates Airlines also announced a similar partnership with Starlink. Emirates will make the Starlink service available on its entire active fleet, with installation beginning on Boeing 777 aircraft in November 2025 and a complete system transition expected by mid-2027.
Emirates takes it a step further: the service will be available free of charge to passengers in all classes without any registration or payment. This competition between the two Dubai airlines in technological services takes a dramatic turn, as both companies strive to offer the best travel experience.
A Tangible Future at the Dubai Airshow 2025
Visitors at the Dubai Airshow 2025 experienced firsthand the offerings of Starlink. Emirates' Boeing 777-300ER aircraft – registered A6-EPF – was equipped with the Starlink system, allowing for a demonstration of the service's speed and stability even on the ground.
The demonstration aimed not only to promote technology but also to redefine the customer experience: presenting a vision of a future where travel no longer means disconnection from the outside world, but rather a part of the continuity of our digital life.
Why is this Development Important for Passengers?
Onboard internet is no longer a luxury but an expectation. For businesspeople working, tourists who want to stream, or travelers looking to stay in touch with family, it is equally important not to switch to offline mode during several-hour flights. The technology offered by Starlink is not only fast but stable, thus providing an excellent alternative to the current often slow or patchy onboard internet connections.
Dubai as a Flagship of Aviation Technology
Dubai's role in innovation has once again been reinforced. The two largest local airlines, flydubai and Emirates, are both leaders in adapting new technologies, drawing the attention of not only the region but the whole world. Thanks to the new generation onboard Wi-Fi, the travel experience becomes even more memorable while Dubai's aviation rises to a new level.
Outlook to the Future
2026 will be a pivotal year for flydubai. The introduction of the Starlink system not only improves passenger experience but also contributes to increased competitiveness in the Middle Eastern and global markets. Access to onboard internet may soon become a requirement, especially in regions where long-haul flights play a significant role.
The Starlink technology opens a new era in the world of commercial aviation – and Dubai once again takes the lead.
