Eid Al Fitr: Navigating Dubai's Festive Traffic

Eid Al Fitr Celebrations in Dubai: Avoid Airport Road During Peak Times - Tips for Holiday Travel
As Eid Al Fitr approaches, the city of Dubai is gearing up for an exciting and bustling period once again. The long weekend provides a great opportunity for relaxation, family activities, and city explorations – however, due to increased traffic and travel waves, it's wise to plan routes in advance. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued a special warning regarding the use of Airport Road.
Avoid Airport Road if Not Heading to the Airport
The RTA has highlighted that the area around Dubai International Airport (DXB), particularly Airport Road, could be heavily congested during the holiday peak period. Therefore, it encourages everyone who is not heading to the airport to choose alternative routes – such as Sheikh Rashid or Nad Al Hamar roads, which are also well-developed and provide quick alternatives.
More Than 3.6 Million Passengers at DXB Terminals
According to DXB operators, more than 3.6 million passengers are expected during the holiday period between March 26 and April 7. The busiest day is expected to be Saturday, April 5, when arrival and departure of over 309,000 passengers are anticipated. In light of this, it is crucial for city residents and visitors to plan their travels consciously.
The airport operator advises passengers to use the recently introduced DXB Express Maps smart navigation tool. This application offers real-time route planning for all DXB terminals, aiding smooth navigation and orientation within the airport.
Free Parking During Eid – With Some Exceptions
The RTA announced that during Eid Al Fitr, from Shawwal 1st to 3rd, public parking will be free across Dubai, except for multi-story parking buildings, which are not exempt from charges. Paid parking will resume its usual schedule on Shawwal 4th.
This relaxation provides an opportunity for people to enjoy festival activities without worrying about parking fees.
Holiday Timetable for Dubai Metro
The RTA has also extended Dubai Metro's operating hours during Eid to allow residents and tourists to travel comfortably across various city locations.
March 30, Sunday: 08:00 – 01:00 (next day)
March 31 – April 2 (Monday – Wednesday): 05:00 – 01:00 (next day)
The extended operating hours apply to both the Red and Green Lines, making major shopping centers, parks, beaches, and festive venues easily accessible.
Tips for a Smooth Travel Experience
If not traveling, avoid Airport Road: choose Sheikh Rashid or Nad Al Hamar Road.
Use navigation apps like DXB Express Maps or the official RTA application to plan your journey with real-time information.
Take advantage of free parking, but avoid multi-story car parks if you want to avoid fees.
Travel by metro during peak times, especially if attending holiday events downtown or at beach locations.
Summary
Eid Al Fitr is a special celebration in the UAE, and Dubai showcases its vibrant side during this time. The city's administration and transport authorities work annually to manage the increased traffic smoothly. By paying attention to route planning, utilizing free parking, and traveling consciously, you can ensure an exciting and stress-free holiday in Dubai.
