Eid Al Adha Travel Surge: 45% Flight Fare Hike

Eid Al Adha Travel Surge: 45% Flight Fare Hike Between UAE and Arab Destinations
The Eid Al Adha season is annually one of the busiest travel times in the UAE, but this year is exceptional in several ways. The longer holiday break, last-minute bookings, limited flight capacity, and religious travels have collectively generated a demand that has significantly increased air ticket prices towards Arab countries. On certain routes, the increase has reached 45%, with many flights nearing full capacity weeks before the holidays.
According to travel agencies and aviation stakeholders, traffic departing from the UAE is currently much stronger than in previous periods. The holiday season traditionally brings strong demand; however, several unique circumstances have arisen this year. The Hajj period coincides with the Eid Al Adha celebration, which has particularly increased passenger traffic towards Saudi Arabia. Moreover, many families planned longer summer vacations, while several educational institutions allow online learning, prompting many families with children to travel earlier or for extended periods.
Saudi Arabia has become one of the busiest destinations
There is currently high demand towards Riyadh, Jeddah, and Medina. These routes are not only quickly filling up due to vacationers but also because of religious journeys. The combination of Eid and Hajj has placed tremendous pressure on airlines, which currently only have a limited number of available seats.
Ticket prices have increased significantly compared to the past two months. On certain flights, the prices are nearing 3,500 dirhams, which represents a considerable cost increase for many travelers. According to travel agencies, occupancy rates on some routes have increased by 70–75% compared to previous weeks, and last-minute bookings are further accelerating the price rise.
Cairo and Amman are also exceptionally popular destinations. More and more expatriates living in the UAE are choosing these routes for family visits or short holiday getaways. Due to the intensity of regional traffic, airlines are almost immediately selling newly opened seat availabilities.
A longer holiday break further increases the pressure
This year's Eid Al Adha break is longer than usual, having a significant impact on travel habits. Many UAE residents are using this time for extended vacations, short European trips, or family visits. Hence, there is strong demand not only towards Arab countries but also towards the Balkans and the CIS region.
Due to the longer holiday, people are willing to spend more on air tickets, especially if the travel is associated with important family or religious events. According to market participants, many travelers prefer to pay the higher amount rather than cancel or postpone their trip.
However, maintaining balance is a serious challenge for airlines. Although capacity has been increased on some flights, many routes still operate on a reduced schedule. Flight frequency is gradually being restored to previous levels, but demand growth is outpacing supply expansion.
The Balkans are also becoming increasingly popular among UAE travelers
One of the interesting trends of this season is the noticeable rise in interest towards the Balkans. Serbia, Bosnia, and Albania have become particularly popular among travelers departing from the UAE. These countries attract travelers with more favorable prices, natural attractions, and increasingly advanced halal-friendly tourism services.
Travel experts say many choose these destinations because organizing travel is simpler compared to some European countries, while prices remain favorable. Mountainous landscapes, pleasant summer weather, and family-friendly environments also play an important role in decision-making.
However, the same problem plagues the Balkans as with Arab routes: there are few available seats. Consequently, prices on these routes are also rapidly increasing, especially in the last days before Eid.
Last-minute bookings further drive prices up
According to travel agencies, one of the biggest problems is that many travelers start booking too late. The Eid period is traditionally more expensive, but this year last-minute bookings have caused even more aggressive price increases.
Airlines' dynamic pricing systems automatically raise ticket prices as the number of available seats decreases. This means that significantly different prices can appear for the same flight with just a few hours' difference.
Many hope for cheaper last-minute deals in the days before departure, but during the Eid period, this rarely happens. The current situation suggests that demand continues to exceed supply, so ticket prices may remain steadily high until the end of the holidays.
Airlines find it difficult to keep up
The regional aviation market is still adapting to changes over the past period. Several airlines are gradually restoring their previous capacity, while fuel costs, route modifications, and operational expenses remain high.
On some routes, detours must be applied due to certain geopolitical situations, increasing operational costs. This also contributes to higher airfare prices. According to travel sector players, prices are unlikely to significantly decrease in the short term.
Experts anticipate that demand will remain strong until the end of the Eid Al Adha period, particularly on routes between the UAE and Arab countries. Those passengers who have not yet booked tickets may face increasingly limited options, while prices may continue to rise.
This year's holiday season once again demonstrated the crucial role the UAE plays in regional aviation. Travel enthusiasm remains exceptionally strong, and it seems that residents are not deterred from holiday travels even by higher airfare. img_alt: An IndiGo Airlines Airbus A320 aircraft
