Dubai's Umm Suqeim Project: Travel Time Reduced

Dubai's latest transportation development represents a major breakthrough for commuters on Umm Suqeim Street: travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road will be reduced from 20 minutes to just 6 minutes. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced this, emphasizing that the project is part of a comprehensive development plan for Jumeirah, Al Safa, and Al Wasl streets.
After the developments, Umm Suqeim Street's capacity will reach 16,000 vehicles per hour, offering significant relief for traffic. The project not only shortens travel times but also connects four crucial transport corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road.
What innovations can we expect?
The central elements of the developments include:
Pedestrian walkways
Separate bicycle paths
Modern boulevards and urban spaces
Additionally, the project impacts six key intersections: Jumeirah Street, Al Wasl Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road. The works involve the construction of four new bridges and three tunnels, totaling 4,100 meters in length.
Detailed infrastructure developments
Jumeirah Street intersection: two-lane tunnel in both directions, complemented by a surface intersection with traffic lights.
Al Wasl Street intersection: two-lane tunnel directing traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jumeirah Street.
Sheikh Zayed Road intersection: two bridges to eliminate traffic overlaps, improving crossing efficiency.
First Al Khail Street intersection: tunnel for vehicles coming from the direction of Al Barsha, directing them towards Sheikh Zayed Road, with associated surface developments.
Who benefits from the development?
The project directly serves important residential and developmental areas in Dubai, such as Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Manara, Al Sufouh, Umm Al Sheif, Al Barsha, and Al Quoz. These areas are home to more than two million residents, so the impact of the transportation developments will be widely felt not only by drivers but also cyclists and pedestrians.
Summary
The Umm Suqeim project announced by Dubai aims not only at drastically reducing travel time but also at comprehensively modernizing the city's transportation system. The new bridges, tunnels, bike paths, and walkways all contribute to building a sustainable, livable, and efficient transportation network in Dubai for the future. This development represents another step towards meeting the continually growing residential and tourism demands, while offering a modern, green, and well-organized urban environment.
