Dubai's Traffic Solution: New Access Points in Jumeirah Village to Cut Travel Time by 70%
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding have signed a new agreement worth 6 billion dirhams aimed at solving traffic issues and developing the road network in key development areas of the city. This step not only serves to increase transportation efficiency but also helps improve the quality of life for both residents and visitors.
Project Details
The agreement includes the construction of several new bridges, roads, and access points with the goal of improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and increasing the capacity of entry and exit points. The developments will impact numerous areas, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.
For Jumeirah Village Circle, four new access points will be created, doubling the capacity of entry and exits. These developments are expected to reduce travel time on internal roads and access points by 70%, while also improving traffic safety and ensuring smooth transit through intersections.
Further Developments
New bridges will be built for Dubai Production City to ensure easier access from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. These changes are expected to reduce travel time by 50% at entry and exit points and improve traffic flow on internal roads.
In the Business Bay area, intersections leading to Sheikh Zayed Road will undergo surface upgrades, and a pedestrian bridge will be constructed at the intersection of Business Bay and First Al Khail Road. These changes will not only enhance pedestrian safety but also optimize traffic flow. Additionally, improvements to the internal roads of the Towers Area will reduce travel time by 30% at entry and exit points and on internal routes.
In Palm Jumeirah, new acceleration and deceleration lanes will be constructed at six locations to optimize traffic flow. Two pedestrian bridges will replace level crossings, enhancing mobility and pedestrian safety and reducing travel time by 40%.
At the entrance to International City (Phase 3), a new lane will be added from Manama Street, internal roads will be widened, and surface intersections will be upgraded with traffic signals. These developments are expected to reduce travel time from 15 minutes to 5 minutes.
Strategic Partnership for the Future
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general of RTA and chairman of the Executive Committee, expressed delight over the agreement with Dubai Holding, which contributes to improving access points of key development areas. "This agreement increases the capacity of internal roads and access points, reduces travel time, improves connections among residents and visitors, and enhances road safety for all users," said Al Tayer.
The RTA remains committed to nurturing strategic partnerships with real estate developers to ensure that the road networks in development areas can handle traffic demands, thereby ensuring seamless mobility for residents and visitors. The projects implemented under this agreement are expected to reduce travel time by 30% to 70% and increase the capacity of entries and exits.
Conclusion
Dubai continues to develop its infrastructure to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and tourism. The 6 billion dirham investment not only aims to alleviate traffic issues but also contributes to the city's long-term sustainability and competitiveness. For residents and visitors, this new wave of development will significantly enhance the quality of life and ensure that Dubai remains one of the most livable and advanced cities in the world.
