Dubai's Ruler Takes the Tram Again

Dubai's ruler once again utilized the tram – promoting public transport
Dubai's leadership doesn't just support sustainable transportation through words: the city's ruler once again used one of the Dubai Tram routes publicly, alongside residents. This is not the first time that high-ranking leaders of the United Arab Emirates have chosen public transport – this gesture has once again generated significant attention.
Among everyday passengers
In footage released by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the city's ruler can be seen waiting at a stop of the Dubai Tram. Not at a special VIP platform, but exactly where the average passengers wait. The video also shows him conversing with RTA officials, observing the functioning of the infrastructure, and boarding the tram, where he engages in conversations with several passengers.
In another widely circulated video, he is seated inside the tram, sharing thoughts with everyday commuters. Such gestures are not only exemplary but also strengthen the connection between the residents and the city leadership.
Previously travelled by metro
This is not the first time Dubai's ruler has opted for public transportation. In 2023, he traveled on the city's metro line equipped with gold cabins, enjoying the view as he headed toward the Dubai Mall station. Such symbolic appearances carry an essential message: public transportation is not only for those without cars – it is a modern, efficient, and convenient option for everyone.
Dubai Metro: a global milestone
The Dubai Metro is the world's longest driverless metro network, which launched on September 9, 2009. The ruler himself touched the first Nol card to the reader, officially opening the system. That night at 9:11 PM, he boarded the first train accompanied by VIP guests and media representatives, and at the first stop – the Dubai International Financial Centre – he placed a golden commemorative coin.
New chapter: Blue Line underway
In the future, Dubai's metro network will further expand. The development of the Blue Line is already in progress, expected to open its doors to passengers on September 9, 2029. The cornerstone of the first station was laid on June 9, 2025, and the naming rights were awarded to a renowned real estate development company for ten years.
In the next phase, announcements regarding the naming rights of other stations are expected, potentially further enhancing private sector involvement in transportation projects.
The power of example
The direct involvement of Dubai's leaders in the operation and development of the city – whether in public transportation, urban development, or innovation – is not just a communication tool but a shaping force. By using public transport, they convey the message that a sustainable urban lifestyle is an accessible and valuable alternative for everyone.
