Dubai's Ramadan Iftar Initiative Feeds Millions

Free Iftar for Over 1.6 Million People: Charity Campaign Launched for Ramadan in Dubai
As Ramadan 2026 commences in the United Arab Emirates, another large-scale humanitarian campaign has been launched, focusing on strengthening community cohesion and family stability. The Dubai-based Beit Al Khair charity organization has inaugurated a 70 million-dirham program this year, providing no fewer than 1.6 million free Iftar meals for those fasting across the nation.
The Heart of the Campaign: Immediate Humanitarian Aid
The largest portion of the total budget, 26.5 million dirhams, has been allocated for emergency aid. This includes support for urgent cases that cannot be delayed: settling overdue rent payments, paying electricity bills, funding urgent medical treatments, or helping families who have suddenly lost their sole breadwinner.
The organization's goal is not only to provide assistance but also to prevent deeper crises, such as evictions or loss of access to basic healthcare. These interventions are based on compassion and immediate action, reflecting the spirit of Ramadan.
Iftar Meals Across the Country
One of the most well-known and striking elements of the campaign is the Iftar meal distribution, through which 1.6 million meals will be distributed to break the fast. With 18 million dirhams allocated for this purpose, the meals are delivered to those in need through 97 permanent distribution points and 18 Ramadan tents.
Distribution sites were chosen through careful field studies, considering population density and the presence of vulnerable groups, such as migrant workers. All meals are prepared according to prescribed hygiene standards and distributed daily with the help of volunteers and field partners.
Food Packages, Monthly Support, and Debt Clearance
During Ramadan, support is provided in various forms, not just through Iftar meals. The "Meer Ramadan" food package program receives 7 million dirhams, while low-income Emirati families get monthly cash and in-kind support totaling 7.6 million dirhams.
Restoring financial stability is also a priority: 6 million dirhams have been set aside for the debt clearance (Gharimeen) program, offering relief to families trapped in debt. Additionally, 2.5 million dirhams are allocated for the Zakat Al Fitr (end-of-fast donation), and 1.2 million dirhams for the Eidiya (holiday gift) program.
Who is Eligible and How to Apply?
Beit Al Khair has more than 65,000 eligible individuals in its database, with applications preceded by social assessments to prevent abuse and ensure transparency. While the support primarily targets low-income Emirati families, other residents may also qualify under certain emergency conditions.
Aid applications are submitted via the organization's official website, where each case is individually assessed.
Role of Businesses and Individuals: Community Support
The campaign not only relies on the efforts of the charity organization but also builds on community involvement. Businesses, companies, and individuals can support various initiatives, such as sponsoring a Ramadan tent or meal distribution point, providing food packages, or funding specific humanitarian cases.
Supporters are offered official agreements outlining the purpose, duration, and cost of the support. Transparency is ensured through digital monitoring options and occasional personal involvement.
In the Year of Family, Unity is More Important
The United Arab Emirates has declared 2026 as the Year of the Family, aligning this Ramadan campaign with its spirit. The goal is not just social support but also promoting long-term family stability—whether through financial security, mental relief, or strengthening the sense of togetherness.
The month of Ramadan is a time of abstinence and compassion, and these actions tangibly demonstrate how an entire community can come together to support those who truly need it. This year's campaign by Beit Al Khair goes beyond numbers; it’s about people, families, and hope—everything Ramadan truly stands for.
