Dubai's New Year Parking and Traffic Perks

Free Parking and Special Traffic Arrangements in Dubai for New Year’s – 2026
As every year-end approaches, the closing days of 2025 are no exception with a massive buildup of anticipation for New Year celebrations in Dubai. As one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, the city is, once again, taking numerous measures to ensure the New Year celebrations are as pleasant and seamless as possible. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has officially announced the measures affecting transportation, parking, as well as customer service and vehicle inspection centers during the 2026 New Year.
Free Parking on January 1st – But Not Everywhere
One of the key announcements by the RTA was that on January 1, 2026, public parking will be free throughout Dubai, with the exception of multi-storey parking garages and Al Khail Gate (N-365) which remains chargeable. This benefit provides significant assistance to those participating in New Year celebrations, particularly in central areas where parking is otherwise scarce.
The free parking is valid for one day; the normal pricing resumes on Friday, January 2, 2026, so car owners are advised to take precaution not to face surprises after the celebrations.
Changes to Intercity Bus Services
The RTA also announced changes to the intercity bus schedules. The E100 route is particularly impacted as it suspends operations from the Al Ghubaiba bus station on Wednesday afternoon, December 31. The last departure: 12:00 from Abu Dhabi, and 14:00 from Al Ghubaiba Station. The service will then halt until January 4.
Passengers wishing to travel to Abu Dhabi during this time can use the E101 service from Ibn Battuta Station. The E102 service will also operate from 14:00 on December 31 through the end of the day, also from Ibn Battuta Station.
Dubai Metro: 43-Hour Continuous Operation
The Dubai Metro plays an especially crucial role in ensuring smooth transport during New Year's Eve as hundreds of thousands use this mode of transportation during the celebrations. Accordingly, the RTA announced that the red and green metro lines will operate continuously for 43 hours.
The uninterrupted service starts on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, at 5:00 AM and continues until midnight (23:59) on Thursday, January 1, 2026. This measure is particularly vital for those heading to the Burj Khalifa area, as large crowds are expected during the fireworks and various events.
Dubai Tram: Modified Schedule
The Dubai Tram is also part of the city's public transportation, predominantly in the coastal areas. According to the RTA, the trams will run from 6:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31, until 1:00 AM on Thursday, January 1. This allows leisure seekers to safely and easily reach their destinations, whether around the Marina or Jumeirah Beach Residence district.
Customer Service Centers and Vehicle Testing Stations Closed
RTA customer service centers will be closed on January 1, however, the smart customer service zones – in Al Barsha, Al Twar, Al Kifaf, and the RTA headquarters – will continue to operate 24/7, allowing self-service at any time.
Additionally, all partner centers dealing with vehicle technical inspections will be closed on January 1, so drivers can only proceed with inspection-related matters from January 2 onwards.
Preparation for Celebrations – Stay Informed
The aforementioned measures reflect Dubai's preparations for the New Year’s Eve and New Year celebrations. The city's administration emphasizes ensuring the safety, comfort, and stress-free enjoyment of both locals and tourists during the programs. The free parking, extended metro schedule, alternative bus services, and open smart service zones all serve this purpose.
Plan in Advance
During the holidays, planning ahead is exceptionally crucial. Drivers need to know where they can park for free and which zones do not offer such exemptions. For those opting for public transportation, understanding the schedules and bus modifications is essential, especially if traveling to other emirates, such as Abu Dhabi.
Summary
Dubai welcomes the New Year with world-class celebrations every year, and 2026 will be no exception. Free parking options, extended public transportation services, and modern 24-hour customer zones collectively ensure everyone participates in the last and first day of the year in a fitting manner. Whether present as a resident or a tourist, the RTA measures facilitate transportation and enhance the experience during this special time.
