Dubai is aiming for a leadership role in electric vehicles (EVs) in the region, encouraging eco-friendly transportation with ongoing infrastructure development. According to the latest data from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), the city now has over 34,970 electric cars in operation, alongside 740 EV Green Charger points in the emirate. This infrastructure is a crucial prerequisite for the spread of electric cars and is an integral part of the strategy aiming for 50% of vehicles on UAE roads to be electric by 2050.
Charger Network: The Foundation of EV Green Energy
The EV Green Charger network operated by Dewa offers a wide range of charger types, including ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall chargers. This diversity ensures that electric car owners can easily access charging options throughout the city. Since the program's inception in 2014, a total of 16,828 customers have utilized the EV Green Charger services. Dewa's data shows that by the end of September 2024, electric vehicles will have consumed approximately 31,674 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity.

In addition to developing the EV Green Charger network, Dubai is supporting several other initiatives to boost the popularity of electric vehicles. For instance, newly registered electric car owners can enjoy discounted parking options and free Salik toll fees. These incentives make electric vehicles an even more attractive choice.
