Dubai's Construction Shakeup: Two Firms Suspended

Dubai Tightens Construction Evaluation: Two Engineering Firms Suspended
Dubai has taken another step towards tightening construction regulations and reinforcing quality building practices. The Dubai Municipality announced a comprehensive update to the "Contractors and Engineering Offices Evaluation System," aimed at sustainability, transparency, and technological innovation. The changes will take effect in early 2026, but the authority has already begun consultations and preparations necessary for the implementation of the new system.
New Evaluation Criteria
The new standards aim to provide a more accurate and comprehensive evaluation system for construction companies and engineering consulting firms. The evaluation will focus on the following areas:
Financial Stability
Emiratization Rates (Involvement of Local Workforce)
Social Responsibility
Accuracy in Project Delivery
Support for Innovation and Application of Modern Technologies
Customer Feedback (Property Owners' Opinions)
The system aims to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of executions while also strengthening Dubai's international competitiveness in the construction industry.
Consultation with Industry Players
The Dubai Municipality emphasized that changes will be implemented with industry involvement. Regular consultations, forums, and working groups are organized with contractors and engineering firms. The goal is to ensure that the new regulation is both practical and supports professional excellence.
Two Engineering Firms Suspended
Alongside the introduction of the new system, the Dubai Municipality suspended the operational licenses of two engineering consultancy firms for six months. The decision was based on professional violations that contradict official regulations and endanger the interests of investors. During the suspension period, the suspended firms will not be eligible to undertake new projects.
Authorities state that such measures are necessary to maintain the quality and safety of construction services in the emirate.
Ongoing Inspections
The Dubai Municipality conducts regular on-site inspections of engineering offices to ensure compliance with laws. These inspections cover adherence to professional regulations, ethical standards, and approved construction practices.
These measures align with Dubai's ambition to transform the construction industry into a smarter, more sustainable, and globally competitive sector.
