Dubai has made another significant stride in developing intelligent urban infrastructure, as Parkin has begun implementing a large-scale AI-powered parking camera system at multiple key locations in the city. The new technology aims not only to simplify parking but also to reduce traffic congestion, facilitate faster discovery of parking spots, and automatically handle fines and violations.

In the project's first phase, more than 500 cameras will be installed in three important districts of Dubai: the areas around Trade Centre 1, Burj Khalifa, and Al Corniche. The unique aspect of this development is that the cameras installed on curbs and poles make their regional debut in this form.

Artificial Intelligence Monitors Parking

A crucial element of the system is the AI-based license plate recognition. The cameras can automatically record the arrival and departure of vehicles, then calculate the parking duration and the payable fee. The technology relies on fully automated operations, which means less need for traditional parking attendants or manual checks in the future.

The system also tracks available parking spaces in real-time. This means that drivers can view available spaces more precisely through the Parkin app, potentially reducing the unnecessary circling that has become a significant issue in Dubai traffic in recent years.

Artificial intelligence is not only for measuring parking time. The cameras can automatically identify violations, such as exceeding the permitted parking time or failure to pay the fee. The system can then automatically initiate the penalty process.

Solar-Powered Operation and Modern Infrastructure

Parkin emphasized that the new cameras will operate entirely on solar power. This aligns well with Dubai's sustainability goals, which have become increasingly significant in the city's developments in recent times.

The solar solution is particularly advantageous in areas where establishing a continuous electrical infrastructure would be difficult or costly. Moreover, the system's energy consumption is more favorable, providing stable operation even under hot weather conditions.

As part of the project, an additional 200 cameras will be installed in other regulated parking zones around Dubai. This suggests that the system may spread across the entire emirate in the long run.

The Role of the Parkin App is Elevated

The new technology is closely linked to the Parkin mobile application. In the future, plans include the use of an automatic payment feature through Parkin Wallet.

This means that at the start of parking, there will be no need to send an SMS, use a parking meter, or start a separate app. The system will recognize the car, initiate the parking, and automatically deduct the amount from the user's balance upon departure.

With this, Dubai is ever closer to a model where transportation and urban services operate in a completely digital ecosystem. The city already employs numerous smart traffic systems, including automatic toll payment, smart traffic lights, and AI-based traffic monitoring.

Less Congestion and Faster Parking Spot Searches

One of the major issues in Dubai's downtown areas is the slow traffic resulting from searching for parking spots. Many drivers spend long minutes trying to find a free spot, especially near Burj Khalifa or in business districts.

The new system aims to assist drivers with real-time occupancy data. If the app shows precise information about available spots, drivers can make quicker decisions, thus reducing road congestion.

Faster turnaround of parking spaces is also an important aspect. Due to automated checks, it will be harder to occupy a spot irregularly for extended periods, making the same parking capacity available to more drivers.

Camera-Equipped Monitoring Vehicles Also Come

As early as February 2026, Parkin began testing another smart system. As part of this, a special monitoring vehicle was equipped with a roof-mounted camera system.

This mobile camera solution can be particularly effective in Dubai's most congested areas. The system's essence is that the monitoring car can continuously move and observe parked vehicles, license plates, and violations.

The technology can significantly reduce the number of pedestrian inspectors while allowing for faster and more accurate control. Such systems are increasingly popular in major cities worldwide, especially where parking capacity is limited.

Dubai Becomes a More Intelligent City
