Dubai: World's Cleanest City Again
Dubai Reclaims Title as World's Cleanest City for Fifth Year
Dubai has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental excellence. According to the latest Japanese Global Power City Index (GPCI) report, the emirate has secured the top position as the world's cleanest city for the fifth consecutive year. The report from the Mori Memorial Foundation's Institute for Urban Strategies ranked Dubai above more than 47 cities, achieving 100% satisfaction in the environmental indicators assessing city cleanliness.
Strategies and Initiatives for Cleanliness
At the heart of Dubai's world-class urban development vision lies livability and sustainability. Led by the Dubai Municipality and in collaboration with government and private sector partners, comprehensive strategies and initiatives are in place to achieve cleanliness goals. These initiatives are closely tied to the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041, aiming to reduce waste generation by 18% and divert 100% of waste from landfills by 2041.
According to the executive director of the Dubai Municipality, Dubai's consistent leadership in global rankings is attributed to the emirate's aspiration to become the best place in the world for living and working. He emphasized that Dubai's successes result from teamwork, perseverance, and a commitment to the highest standards.
Cleanliness Team's Work and Infrastructure
Dubai's remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the dedicated work of the Dubai Municipality's over 3,200-member cleanliness team. Engineers, supervisors, and inspectors work together to maintain the emirate's unparalleled cleanliness levels for five consecutive years.
To maintain this cleanliness, Dubai operates a state-of-the-art fleet of 855 modern vehicles and equipment that carry out their tasks smoothly year-round. The city's cleanliness programs cover the following areas:
1. Maintenance of 2,400 kilometers of main roads and highways
2. Cleaning of a 1,419 square kilometer investment area
3. Cleaning of 33.4-kilometer water channels and streams
4. Daily cleaning of residential, industrial, rural areas, markets, and waste storage facilities
Community Services and Waste Management
Dubai Municipality offers several community services that make life easier for residents and contribute to sustainable waste management. These include the removal of household furniture, abandoned vehicles and equipment, as well as the handling of medical and hazardous waste. The city uses innovative e-systems to monitor waste collection and transportation processes, thus maximizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.
Dubai's Vision
Dubai continually works to maintain its role as one of the leading cities worldwide. The shared commitment of the city's leaders and residents sends a clear message to the world: Dubai is not only a modern metropolis but also a sustainable city of the future, where cleanliness and quality of life are top priorities.
Through ongoing innovation and high-quality infrastructure, Dubai serves as an example for other global cities, demonstrating how technology, sustainability, and community engagement can be successfully combined for a more livable future.
