Dubai Tram Resumes Normal Operations After Shutdown

Dubai Tram Resumes: Normal Operations After 24-Hour Halt
Dubai's public transport is running smoothly again after restoring tram services between the Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah stations following a 24-hour partial shutdown. The service was halted due to a fire incident at the Marina Pinnacle tower on Friday night, but by Sunday, the entire route was operational again, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
On Friday late evening, tram services were temporarily suspended between the Dubai Marina station (Number 5) and Palm Jumeirah station (Number 9) after flames erupted in the nearby 67-story Marina Pinnacle building. Due to the fire, the transport authority decided on a partial suspension as a precaution, ensuring passenger safety and facilitating rescue and damage control efforts.
During the service interruption, the RTA ensured uninterrupted transport between the affected stations with alternative bus routes. In the rest of the tram network, traffic continued smoothly. Videos shared on social media showed debris falling from the building, posing significant hazards, making quick response and securing the area critically important.
Dubai Civil Defence units battled the fire for six hours and successfully extinguished the flames. Special firefighter units carefully and systematically evacuated 3820 residents living in 764 apartments in the building, so no one was injured during the incident.
The authorities' quick response and organized rescue operation significantly contributed to minimizing damages and discomfort for residents. According to the RTA's statement, the resumption of tram services reinstated normal traffic conditions, with passenger safety remaining a top priority.
This event highlights the importance of quick response, coordinated authority actions, and a well-organized urban infrastructure in handling similar emergencies. Dubai will continue to focus heavily on maintaining and developing the safety of the transport network to be prepared for any future challenges.
