Dubai Traffic Diversions: What Drivers Should Know

Traffic Diversions Begin in Dubai: What Can Drivers Expect on E311 and E611 Roads?
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that starting June 28, 2025, two-month road traffic diversions will be implemented on the E311 Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the E611 Emirates Road sections. The purpose of these traffic restrictions is to upgrade the rain and groundwater drainage systems and to renovate road surfaces.
Where Will the Diversions Be?
1. Mudon Underpass (E611):
Work will begin on a key section of the Emirates Road at the Mudon underpass. Over the next two months, drivers will need to use alternative routes, such as:
Underpass 7 (U-turn towards Jebel Ali)
Hessa Street – Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Street (towards Dubai)
2. Al Barari Underpass (E311):
The other main section affected is on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at the Al Barari underpass. Here too, closures are necessary due to rainwater drainage and road surface renovation works. Alternative routes:
Dubai–Al Ain Bridge (U-turn towards Jebel Ali)
Global Village Underpass and Umm Suqeim Street Interchange (turning towards Sharjah)
Why Are the Closures Happening?
The aim of the developments is to make the region more resilient to heavy rainfall in the long term, preventing the previously frequent water overflows and traffic jams. The modern drainage system ensures that the roads remain safely usable during rainy weather, and the resurfacing improves travel comfort.
What Should Drivers Watch Out For?
Plan before departure: It's advised to check current traffic conditions in advance and set off on time.
Follow the signs: Temporary road signs provided by the RTA will help with navigation.
Use navigation: Apps like Google Maps or Waze provide up-to-date information on road closures and suggested detours.
Summary
The two-month-long traffic diversions may cause inconveniences, but are essential for the ongoing maintenance of Dubai's rapidly growing infrastructure. Cooperation and forward planning by drivers are crucial for smooth travel during the works.
