Temporary Traffic Restrictions on 10 Roads Due to Cycling Race
On Sunday, temporary traffic restrictions will be enforced on 10 major roads in Dubai due to the "Dubai Ruler’s Court Race," an elite men's cycling event, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai. This event aims to promote sports and provide a competitive platform for elite cyclists from the UAE and GCC countries.
Details and Route of the Race
The race will commence on February 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM and will last for four hours, concluding at the cycling track of the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve. Participants will cover a 193-kilometer distance, passing by iconic Dubai landmarks such as:
Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood,
Dubai Old Custom House,
Ministry of Defense,
Dubai Frame and Za’abeel Park,
Museum of the Future,
Emirates Towers,
Al Marmoom Conservation Area.
The RTA has shared the race route on the X (formerly Twitter) platform, highlighting the roads affected by traffic: Al Seef, Riyadh, Sheikh Rashid, Sheikh Zayed, Al Majlis, Za’abeel Palace, Al Ain-Dubai Road, Zayed bin Hamdan, Al Qudra, and Saih Al Salam.
Traffic Restrictions
During the race, the affected road sections will be closed for approximately 10 minutes to ensure the safe passage of the cyclists. Restrictions will be lifted immediately once the last cyclist has cleared the area. It's important to note that the Al Qudra cycling track will also be closed for the entire duration of the race. The RTA requests residents and visitors to plan their travels in advance to avoid delays.
Registration and Participation
Interested participants can register in the Al Salam village no later than 12:00 PM. The competition is exclusively for elite male cyclists from the UAE and GCC countries.
Part of the Al Salam Cycling Championship
The "Dubai Ruler’s Court Race" is part of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, now in its 9th edition, following the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's ruler. The championship includes multiple events such as:
a. The "Sword of Honour" race, dedicated to amateur cyclists from the UAE.
b. The desert race scheduled for February 9.
c. The women's race on February 16.
The race series has gained special attention due to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's graduation from the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy.
