Dubai Premium Schools See Enrollment Surge
Rising Popularity of Premium Schools in Dubai: Enrollments Increase by 20%
The surge in enrollments at premium schools in the United Arab Emirates highlights the growing demand for quality education, particularly in Dubai, where some schools charge tuition fees of up to 120,000 dirhams. Despite this, enrollments have increased by nearly 20%, largely driven by the influx of new families.
Why is there growing interest in premium schools?
Lisa Crausby, Chief Education Officer at GEMS Education, stated that they observe an average annual growth of 4% in enrollments at premium schools and expect a further expansion of 6.5% by September 2025. GEMS operates 13 premium schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and consistently expands their capacities. New facilities include:
a) A senior school campus within GEMS World Academy – Dubai.
b) A new middle school block at GEMS Dubai American Academy.
c) A sixth form wing at Jumeirah College Dubai.
The group plans additional expansions in schools such as GEMS FirstPoint School – The Villa and GEMS World Academy – Abu Dhabi.
Taaleem: Steady Financial Growth and Expansion
The Taaleem group showed strong performance in the first quarter of the 2024-25 academic year, generating revenue of 306.1 million dirhams, marking a 14.8% year-on-year increase. Premium school enrollments also rose by 18.7% compared to the same period the previous year. The group expanded its capacity with significant investments:
1) Acquisition of LLFP Meydan French school.
2) Procurement of land and buildings owned by Amity for the expansion of DBS Emirates Hills.
These acquisitions totaled an investment of 437.5 million dirhams, contributing to a 28% annual increase in Taaleem's premium capacity.
The Value and Popularity of Premium Education
David Wade, Principal of GEMS FirstPoint School – The Villa, noted that enrollments have increased by 34% since 2022, with waiting lists now in place for several year groups. The school's fees range from 36,593 dirhams to 74,017 dirhams, making it a value-for-money choice in the premium sector.
Some institutions, like Hartland International School, have experienced a surge in demand, particularly for British education. Students from the school have received acceptance offers from world-renowned universities such as Cambridge, Stanford, and UCL.
Factors Driving the Growth
The continuous growth of Dubai's population, the development of new residential communities like Sobha Hartland, and the city's high quality of life all contribute to the rising demand for premium schools. The development of the education sector clearly reflects Dubai's position as a preferred destination for international families and businesses.
Conclusion
Premium schools in Dubai not only offer high-quality education but also provide infrastructure that meets the expectations of international families. The increase in enrollments and significant investments indicate that education remains a key attraction of the city, as the sector continues to grow.
