Dubai Powers Ahead with Electric Vehicles

Dubai's Electric Future: Over 1,270 Charging Points for EVs
Dubai continues its vigorous progress towards sustainability and green transportation: by the end of the first half of 2025, more than 40,600 electric vehicles (EV) will be running on the roads of the emirate, supported by more than 1,270 charging points. This development aligns well with the Emirates Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
Comprehensive EV Infrastructure in Dubai
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is actively expanding the infrastructure needed to charge electric vehicles. The EV Green Charger initiative was launched in 2014 and has since evolved into a sophisticated and rapidly growing network. The system includes various types of chargers:
Ultra-fast chargers
Fast chargers
Public chargers
Wall-box style home chargers
The network is being built not only independently but also through public-private partnerships, making chargers accessible at numerous convenient and frequented locations.
Partnership with Parkin
The latest step towards expansion involves a cooperation agreement signed by Dewa with Parkin, one of Dubai's leading parking management companies. Under this agreement, charging stations will be installed in key parking lots, enhancing convenience for electric car owners, especially in densely visited areas such as shopping centers or business districts.
Rapid Growth
As of March 2025, approximately 740 charging points were operational in Dubai. The goal was to reach 1,000 by the end of the year, however, the latest data shows this has already been exceeded, demonstrating the success of combined community and private investment.
The Future of EVs in the UAE
The UAE has an ambitious target: by 2050, at least 50% of cars on the roads should be electric or hybrid. This goal is supported not only by expanding infrastructure but also by incentive programs, green charging cards, and licensing systems. The involvement of the private sector plays a crucial role in making this transition smooth and market-driven.
Summary
Dubai sets an example for the region and the world on how to integrate technological advancement, environmental responsibility, and urban infrastructure development. With more than 1,270 charging points and over 40,600 EVs, the emirate is on solid ground towards electromobility, manifesting a vision where transportation is not only efficient but clean and sustainable.
