Dubai Police Successfully Recover Misplaced Bag with Over 25,000 Dirhams
A passenger rushing to catch another flight to China realized they had lost their bag. However, with the help of the Dubai Police, the lost bag, which contained more than 25,000 dirhams in cash, was tracked and retrieved. The story highlights that an Egyptian passenger accidentally picked up another traveler's bag at the baggage claim area due to its similar color and shape to his own.
The bag, containing $7,000 (around 25,710 dirhams), along with personal belongings and travel documents, was returned to its owner within just half an hour.
The duty officer who received the report immediately formed a task force that tracked the passenger's movements from the moment they entered the airport. The police reviewed security camera footage and contacted Emirates Airlines.
The investigation revealed that the bag was mistakenly switched by an Egyptian female passenger who was waiting for her relatives in the airport corridors. She did not realize the mix-up and was surprised when the police explained the situation and returned her own bag.
Both passengers appreciated the quick and efficient response of the Dubai Police, which resulted in the bags being returned to their rightful owners in a short time.
This is not the first instance where Dubai Police has aided passengers. In 2023, an Indian pilot was similarly surprised when authorities returned his watch a month after he left it at the airport. In 2022, the police returned 77,000 dirhams to a Pakistani passenger after a taxi driver found the lost money. And in 2021, they recovered lost documents for a teacher at the airport.
