Jet Ski Inspections – Confiscation of 32 Damaged Vehicles and Warnings to Renters

Dubai's police recently conducted an extensive inspection campaign on the city's jet ski rental services, resulting in the confiscation of 32 damaged or previously accident-involved jet skis. These watercraft were deemed unfit for safe operation and were immediately removed from circulation. This action is part of Dubai authorities' ongoing efforts to improve maritime safety and regulate watercraft rental services.

Inspections and Violation Findings

The inspection campaign targeted jet ski renters operating in the Dubai Fishing Port 3 area. During their investigations, the police not only identified damaged vehicles but also found irregularities in an additional 39 jet skis. These included violations of safety regulations and operating outside designated routes.

During the operation, authorities also uncovered administrative violations. Several rental companies lacked electronic documentation of rental processes, and the transparency of rental agreements was also missing. These shortcomings not only constitute legal violations but also pose significant risks to renters and maritime safety.

Warnings and Legal Proceedings

Authorities issued immediate warnings to the involved companies and prepared detailed documentation of the noted violations, which will be forwarded to appropriate licensing and legal authorities. The Dubai police made it clear that they will continue such inspections in the future, encouraging renters to comply with regulations.

Penalties for Rule Breakers

According to the law, significant fines are imposed on companies that do not adhere to regulations:

Operating watercraft without a license: 5,000 dirhams fine

Operating with an expired license: 1,000 dirhams fine

Renting a poorly maintained watercraft: 5,000 dirhams fine

Obstructing the work of authorities: 5,000 dirhams fine

The Dubai police emphatically urged jet ski rental companies to regularly inspect the vehicles' condition, ensure necessary safety measures are in place, and fully adhere to the terms of rental agreements.

Focus on Safety and Prevention

Dubai's maritime transport has undergone significant development in recent years, with more and more tourists enjoying the freedom and experience of jet ski rentals. However, compliance with regulations and proper maintenance of the vehicles are essential to avoid accidents and inconveniences.

Authorities aim for jet ski renters to provide transparent, lawful operations that not only increase the safety of renters but also contribute to maintaining Dubai's international reputation as one of the world's safest and most modern tourist destinations.

Summary

Dubai police's recent operation highlighted the irregularities present in the jet ski rental market. Authorities aim to ensure that all participants in maritime transport are safe and that services meet the highest safety standards through strict inspections and significant fines.
