Mall of the Emirates: Barrier-Free Parking Launches in Dubai – What You Need to Know
Starting February 3, a new era began for visitors of the Mall of the Emirates (MOE) regarding parking: the barrier-free, ticketless parking system was introduced. The new system was announced last October, following Majid Al Futtaim's (MAF) five-year contract with Parkin PJSC, Dubai's largest public pay-for-parking operator. This new technology aims to make the parking experience simpler and faster for shoppers.
How Does Barrier-Free Parking Work?
The essence of the new parking system at the Mall of the Emirates is simplicity and speed. Drivers can enter and exit without obstruction, as there are no barriers or ticket dispensers. Instead, Parkin's advanced camera system automatically records vehicle license plates, monitors parking times, and tracks the movement of vehicles.
Key Details:
a, On weekdays, the first 4 hours of parking are free, with charges applying only after this period.
b, If drivers exceed the free period, they receive an SMS notification with the fee amount and a link to pay the parking fee online.
c, Payment must be made within 3 days, or a penalty of 150 dirhams will be imposed.
What's Changed?
Though technologically advanced, the parking fees have not increased. MAF emphasized that the new system aims to improve driver convenience: no more queuing, handling tickets, or worrying about lost parking tickets.
Important Rules to Consider
1. Passing Fee: A simple passage through the MOE parking area incurs a 3 dirham fee. This rule was introduced because many drivers used the mall's parking lot to avoid traffic on Al Barsha's inner roads and reach Sheikh Zayed Road quicker.
2. Penalties: After receiving the SMS payment notification, drivers have three days to settle the fee. Missing the deadline will result in a 150 dirham fine.
Why is the New System Worth It?
a, Speed: No more waiting at barriers, drivers can smoothly enter and exit.
b, Convenience: No need to search for tickets or queue at machines.
c, Digital Payment: The parking fee can be easily settled via a link received in an SMS.
Summary
The introduction of the barrier-free parking system at the Mall of the Emirates marks another step towards Dubai's smart city developments. It offers drivers a faster, more convenient, and simpler parking experience while maintaining existing fee structures. However, it's crucial to pay attention to the new rules, especially payment deadlines and passage fees, to avoid fines.
The system is already successfully operating in the Deira City Centre and is expected to be implemented in more shopping centers across Dubai.
