Dubai: Key Player in Global Crime-Busting

Dubai's Key Role in International Crime Fighting: Capture and Extradition of Three Wanted Belgians
In the United Arab Emirates, it has once again been demonstrated that Dubai is not only an economic and tourist center but also a key player in international crime fighting. On July 13, the Dubai Police arrested three Belgian citizens wanted with an Interpol Red Notice. The suspects are accused of organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and robbery and were quickly handed over to Belgian authorities after their arrest.
Action Taken Based on Interpol Red Notice
The operation was directed by the Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department based on an official international arrest warrant received through the UAE Ministry of Justice. As a result of close cooperation with Belgian authorities, the suspects - who were wanted by both Interpol and Europol - were lawfully and swiftly extradited to Belgium.
Successful International Cooperation
The extradition occurred not only by considering the Interpol Red Notices, but also under a bilateral extradition and mutual legal assistance agreement signed in December 2021 and entered into force in November 2022 between the UAE and Belgium. This successful operation is another example of the UAE's active participation in the global fight against cross-border crime.
Belgium's justice department highlighted the swift and efficient action of the UAE Ministry of Interior, particularly emphasizing the common commitment to the rule of law. During discussions between the justice ministers of the two countries, they reinforced that such cases set an example for the importance of joint actions against cross-border crime.
UAE's Extradition Practice Becoming More Efficient
This case is just another link in the series where the UAE successfully handles extradition cases. For example, in June 2025, a Moldovan citizen was extradited to France for corruption and fraud, while in May 2025, a leading member of an Irish criminal organization was extradited to Dublin.
Previously, a French national accused of drug-related crimes and a Brazilian national accused of sports betting fraud and match-fixing were also extradited. In 2024, the UAE extradited a Filipino citizen accused of child exploitation.
Dubai: Security Policy Hub
Dubai's growing role in global judicial cooperation is no coincidence. The city's advanced infrastructure, technological tools, and the professional preparedness of authorities all contribute to Dubai's ability to respond swiftly and effectively to international crime. The UAE government sends a clear message: the country is not a hideout for criminals but a collaborative partner to any nation striving for the defense of the rule of law.
