Dubai Cracks Down on Motorcycle Violations
More than 1,200 fines and 77 motorcycles confiscated due to RTA violations
During its latest inspection campaign, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued more than 1,200 fines and confiscated 77 motorcycles due to violations. The aim of the action was to improve road safety and strengthen the enforcement of rules, particularly among delivery riders. The inspections mainly focused on busy areas such as Hessa Street, Za’abeel Street, Jumeirah Street, Downtown, Mirdif, and Motor City.
Highlighted Violations
RTA inspectors examined delivery riders, vehicles, and operational facilities more than 11,000 times. The inspections revealed the following violations:
1. Dangerous driving behavior: One of the most common issues was that riders did not comply with traffic rules, posing a risk to their own safety as well as others.
2. Lack of protective gear: Many riders failed to wear appropriate protective clothing, such as helmets, which are basic requirements for safe travel.
3. Non-compliant technical standards for motorcycles: Inspections found that many motorcycles were not in compliance with technical standards, posing serious accident risks.
Vehicle Confiscation
A total of 44 motorcycles were confiscated during the campaign, which were:
a. Unfit for use due to technical conditions,
b. Operating with expired insurance or registration.
Additionally, 33 electric bicycles were seized as they lacked the necessary permits required by traffic regulations. Saeed Al Ramsi, the director overseeing licensing activities for the RTA, stated that having permits is especially important for electric vehicles since they are only allowed on public roads under specific rules.
Strengthening Traffic Safety
The RTA aims to strictly enforce traffic regulations to minimize accident risks and enhance road safety. Their inspections paid particular attention to drivers working in the delivery sector, who often face dangerous situations due to high traffic and tight delivery schedules.
Al Ramsi added:
“Our inspection campaigns are ongoing to ensure compliance with traffic rules and to promote the safety and sustainability of Dubai's transport system.”
Responsibility in the Delivery Sector
Dubai's rapidly growing delivery sector is receiving special attention from the RTA, as the sector's expansion has increased the number of motorcycle riders. Authorities continuously monitor the condition of vehicles and drivers to provide reliable and safe services to the public.
The RTA's campaigns not only aim to penalize violations but also highlight the importance of regulations and safety standards. This ensures that Dubai's transportation system remains one of the most advanced and safest in the world.
