Dubai Cracks Down on Jet Ski Violations

Jet Ski Inspections in Dubai: Hundreds of Violations, 41 Vehicles Seized
The Dubai Police and Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) launched a joint intensified marine inspection campaign to curb irregularities related to jet skis. During the operation, 431 violations were recorded, and 41 improperly used jet skis were seized. The goal is clear: to enhance sea safety, prevent accidents, and curb irresponsible behavior.
The Most Common Violations
Different types of violations came to light during the inspections, including:
using expired jet ski licenses
entering prohibited zones, such as swimming areas and hotel beach sections
riding jet skis outside permitted times
lack of life jackets or helmets
use by minors
overloading the jet ski
These infringements not only endanger those on the water but also pose a risk to the safety of swimmers.
Fines for Violations
The fines imposed depended on the severity of the violations:
Using expired licenses: 1,000 dirhams
Lack of life jacket or helmet: 1,000 dirhams
Harassing or disturbing others: 2,000 dirhams
Ignoring designated maritime sports zones: 1,000 dirhams
The affected areas extended to several beaches in Dubai, with heightened presence and continuous patrolling.
Safety is Not Optional
Authorities emphasized that following maritime transport rules is the shared responsibility of all jet ski users. Operators are obligated to:
wear a life jacket
avoid overloading
adhere to speed limits (generally 5–7 nautical miles per hour)
maintain the vehicle regularly
avoid approaching private boats or tourist vessels
Continuous Presence at Sea
The patrols responsible for maritime safety are on duty 24/7 to check licenses, respond to possible accidents, and maintain order at sea. The DMA leader pointed out that the maritime safety model represented by Dubai aims to provide a sustainable, attractive environment for residents and tourists alike in the long term.
Common Goal: A More Responsible Maritime Culture
The campaign goes beyond one-time inspections. Authorities aim to develop regulatory frameworks and technological backgrounds in the future so that sea sports enthusiasts can enjoy their hobbies in a safe environment. The goal is to create a community where all users are aware of their responsibilities and adapt their behavior accordingly on the water.
Developing Dubai's water transport culture can be exemplary in the region and contribute to the city maintaining its leading role in global maritime tourism and sports in the long term.
