Dubai Boosts Road Capacity by 50% at Key Junction

Dubai Road Upgrade: 50% Increase in Capacity at Al Wasl and Al Manara Junction
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented another significant infrastructure development: they have successfully completed the modernization of the intersection between Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street, resulting in a substantial 50% increase in road capacity. The aim of the project was to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity between major urban corridors.
Expanded Lanes, Reduced Waiting Times
As part of the development, the crossing section was expanded to three lanes, leading to faster traffic flow and a reduction in waiting times by as much as 30%. Simultaneously, a new traffic lane was created for vehicles heading from Al Manara Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road, along with a dedicated U-turn lane for traffic heading in the same direction.
Part of the 2025 Transportation Development Plan
This intervention is part of the 2025 Transportation Development Plan, which provides a comprehensive strategy for expanding Dubai's transportation network. The main objectives of the program include increasing the efficiency of routes parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road, accelerating transit between key junctions, and improving connectivity between inner city areas—such as Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, and Al Safa.
Safer and Smoother Traffic
The RTA emphasized that developments of this nature align with Dubai's long-term strategy to enhance road safety, ensure seamless passage between city areas, and alleviate congestion in busy zones. Ongoing infrastructure enhancements aim to create a comfortable, predictable, and safe traffic environment for both residents and visitors of the city.
More Projects on the Horizon
Future road developments are expected in different parts of the city, particularly in areas where traffic volume regularly exceeds capacity limits. The RTA is committed to advancing Dubai's infrastructure with smart urban transport and sustainable mobility, thereby reducing the environmental impact of transportation.
