Cooling Care: Refreshing Workers in Dubai's Heat

Cooling Care in Dubai: Thousands Receive Water, Juice, and Ice Cream in Summer Heat
The summer months in Dubai present challenges not only for tourists. Temperatures often exceed 45°C, making it especially tough for those working under the blazing sun, in construction, park maintenance, or transportation jobs. This is why the Al Freej Fridge humanitarian campaign is particularly heartwarming, aiming to distribute two million refreshing drinks and ice creams to the most exposed workers during the summer.
A Sip of Attention
The campaign is running for the second year and at its latest stop at the Azizi Venice construction, one of the largest projects in Dubai South, hundreds of workers received iced water, fruit juice, and ice cream. The workers, who are almost ceaselessly laboring under the sun, feel like they're in an oven under their helmets, as one of them put it. The simple yet effective gesture brought not only physical refreshment but also a sense of appreciation.
Behind the Campaign
The Al Freej Fridge initiative was launched by Ferjan Dubai with the support of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, in collaboration with the Suqia and the UAE Food Bank organizations. The goal is clear: to mitigate health risks caused by the heat, such as dehydration and heatstroke. Volunteers also participated in the distribution of refreshments, braving the scorching heat alongside the workers to ensure no one was left without assistance.
Human Stories in the Queue
One worker assembling steel structures shared that he has been working in Dubai for six years, exposed daily to the scorching sun. The cold mango juice he held was, in his words, a blessing on that day. Another worker, who covers thousands of steps daily across dusty and debris-filled sites, said the ice cream not only refreshed him physically but also brought back memories of home, especially of his children.
More Than Just a Helping Hand
The campaign continues until August 23, reaching targeted workers in various areas across Dubai enduring the greatest heat. Not only those in construction but also workers in gardening, transportation, and cleaning are receiving the cooling donations. The initiative conveys the message that even on the hottest days, there is an opportunity to turn to others with humanity, providing attention and care to those contributing to the city's development.
Summary
The Al Freej Fridge campaign offers not only refreshing drinks but also human warmth. Amidst the summer heatwave, these small gestures can have a significant impact – both physically and emotionally. Dubai continues to set an example of how, even in the world of technology and development, those laying the foundations should not be forgotten.
