Cold Front Brings Mild Weather for Ramadan

A Cold Front Hits UAE: How Weather Changes at Ramadan's Start
In recent days, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced significant temperature fluctuations brought about by a cold front. This change in weather comes just ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, allowing those who fast to begin their fast with cooler mornings and nights. According to weather experts, temperatures are expected to remain relatively low in the coming days, promising pleasant weather in the early days of Ramadan.
Dramatic Temperature Drop
On February 25, due to the cold front reaching the UAE, temperatures fell by more than five degrees between Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday, temperatures in some parts of the country had dropped below 10°C, and meteorologists suggest that the colder days will persist. An expert from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) explained the ongoing weather changes in detail.
"Between Monday and Tuesday, we observed a temperature drop of as much as five degrees. On Tuesday, the weather was influenced by a northwesterly wind that brought in a cold air mass from the direction of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. This air mass was associated with a high-pressure system and arrived in the UAE from the cold regions of Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, and Jordan," the expert stated.
Why Is It Colder in Neighboring Countries?
Interestingly, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are also dealing with similar weather conditions. Saudi Arabia is experiencing a moderate cold wave, with temperatures already below freezing in northern and central areas. Meanwhile, Kuwait is experiencing the harshest February cold snap in 60 years, with temperatures hovering around -1°C in places like Mutlaa and Salmi due to a Siberian Arctic cold front.
As the cold air mass moved southward, it weakened, explaining why temperatures in the UAE did not drop as drastically. "While the temperature in northern Saudi Arabia was near freezing, it was around 9-10°C at night in the UAE, with higher maximum temperatures during the day," the expert added.
What to Expect at the Start of Ramadan?
Meteorologists predict relatively stable temperatures over the next five days, with only a slight increase expected. This means that at the start of Ramadan, pleasant, not too hot weather is anticipated, with cool mornings and nights. This will be particularly noticeable in the country's interior and mountainous areas.
A decrease in wind speed also contributes to milder weather perceptions. According to Habib, Wednesday's weather was sunnier than Tuesday's, and the northwesterly wind was weaker. "The decrease in wind speed makes the weather feel warmer today, even though the air mass is essentially the same. The difference is that the wind is weaker, so the cold is less felt," he explained.
Cloud Cover and Rain
Meteorologists report that cloud cover will remain, especially in northern UAE. Light rain is expected in Ras al-Khaimah from Wednesday night and Thursday, while only cloudy weather is expected in the Abu Dhabi area. The Arabian Gulf will continue to experience choppy conditions over the next five days, while moderate to occasionally choppy conditions are expected in the Gulf of Oman.
Summary
At the start of Ramadan, the UAE can expect pleasant, mild weather brought on by a cold front. Temperatures will remain low, especially in the mornings and nights, making fasting easier for those observing it. Weather conditions will remain stable, allowing the early days of Ramadan to pass in a calm and pleasant atmosphere.
Weather variability has always been a part of life in the UAE, but accurate forecasts from meteorologists help people prepare for current conditions. Thus, the holy month of Ramadan can be a physically and spiritually pleasant time for the country's residents.
