Books Unite Cultures at Sharjah Book Fair
The 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair has opened its doors to literature lovers and cultural enthusiasts at the Expo Centre Sharjah, with a ceremonial opening speech by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah, and a member of the Supreme Council. This annual event is one of the most significant events on the cultural calendar of the United Arab Emirates, which this year places special emphasis on the motto “It All Begins with a Book.” The fair aims to highlight the importance of reading and books, emphasizing that all knowledge, stories, and creative ideas begin on the pages of a single book.
This year's edition boasts a record number of participants, with 2,523 publishers and exhibitors from 108 countries presenting their latest books, publications, and innovations. This international collaboration attracts visitors not only from the Middle East but from around the world, providing an opportunity to meet representatives from literature, art, and culture in one place.
During the 12 days of the book fair, nearly 1,400 various literary and creative events await the interested. These programs celebrate both reading and writing, from book launches and signings to seminars and panel discussions, and even workshops that teach new skills to visitors. A particularly colorful and creative array of programs is offered for children, aiming to foster a love of reading and creative thinking from a young age.
The Sharjah International Book Fair is not just about books; it celebrates the intertwining of literature and culture. This is why numerous international authors and literary professionals attend the fair, offering inspiring lectures and discussions. The event provides a platform where different cultures and backgrounds meet, allowing participants to share their thoughts, experiences, and artistic inspirations.
The organizers have paid special attention to the use of digital technologies, enabling those visitors who cannot attend in person to join certain programs online. This opportunity is particularly important in a world where reading habits are constantly changing, and digital books and online reading options are gaining increasing ground.
Visitors to the fair can participate in a variety of events, such as cultural and gastronomic showcases that promote Sharjah's traditions and the rich cultural heritage of the Emirates. The Expo Centre Sharjah is a special venue for these events, as its modern infrastructure can host the largest and most complex events, while the spectacular design of the building contributes to the visitors' experience.
The Sharjah International Book Fair, open until November 17, is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to delve into the world of literature and culture, connect with other book lovers, and draw inspiration from the diverse program offerings.
