Abu Dhabi Opens Accessible Beach for All

Abu Dhabi: 1,000 Square Meters of Beach Opened for the Visually Impaired – Special Services and Full Accessibility
The UAE's capital, Abu Dhabi, once again sets an example in social inclusion and accessibility. The city municipality announced the opening of a 1,000 square-meter beach section specifically designed for the visually impaired near the Corniche promenade, next to gate 3. This initiative closely ties with the 'Year of Community' programme series, announced by the UAE's President for 2025.
Highlight Goal: Serving the Visually Impaired Community Honorably
The project's goal is to ensure that visually impaired individuals can have safe and independent experiences during seaside relaxation. The new beach section was designed with careful consideration of the special needs of the affected visitors.
The Services That Distinguish This Beach
The beach is open daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM, while swimming is allowed from morning until sunset. The area offers various free services for visually impaired visitors and their companions:
Free Transport: Special shuttles are available for people with disabilities, ensuring convenient access.
Tactile Walkways: Special paving assists in safe navigation along the beach.
Braille Guides: Navigation is assisted by information boards in Braille, which also present water usage rules.
Guided Pathway with Rope and Sound Signals: A path leading to the water features warning bells at both ends to aid orientation.
Designated Swimming Zone: Supervised by a trained lifeguard for safety.
Braille Service Guide: Provides comprehensive information on available options for visitors.
Full Accessibility and Comfort
The infrastructure considers not only the visually impaired but also elderly and other visitors with special needs:
Free entry is assured for visually impaired visitors and one companion.
Accessible paths throughout the beach area.
Separate restrooms for people with disabilities.
Floating wheelchairs usable in water.
Drinking water stations at different points on the beach.
Special parking spots directly near the beach.
Safety Above All
A licensed nurse is on duty during opening hours to provide immediate medical assistance if needed. The facility was designed following international standards, supported by its official recognition as a 'disability-friendly beach' by the World Disability Union.
Summary
The visually impaired-friendly beach in Abu Dhabi is exemplary not only locally but also internationally. The initiative clearly demonstrates that the UAE takes social integration seriously and offers a real opportunity for everyone, regardless of physical abilities, to independently and with dignity enjoy the pleasures of a vacation.
