Traffic Rule Violators: 19 Motorcycles Seized in Dubai
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a strict inspection campaign targeting motorcycle delivery couriers. During this operation, 1,059 inspections were conducted in various densely populated areas of the emirate, including Downtown Dubai, Jumeirah, and the Motor City neighborhoods, resulting in the seizure of 19 motorcycles due to various violations.
Why was the crackdown initiated?
In recent years, the number of home deliveries in Dubai has skyrocketed, and concurrently, traffic rule violations have become more common in the affected segment. During the current inspections, authorities primarily targeted drivers who lacked the mandatory qualification certificate, did not wear protective gear, or drove carelessly or dangerously.
No Courier Service Without Training and Certification
Since December 2022, the regulation stipulates that couriers must possess not only a valid driver's license but also a qualification certificate issued by the RTA. This certificate confirms that the driver has completed both theoretical and practical training, covering defensive driving techniques, safety regulations, and basics of periodic motorcycle maintenance.
Collaboration for Safer Traffic
The inspections were not solely conducted by the RTA; the Dubai Police, Ministry of Labour, Dubai Municipality, and Health Authority also participated in the operation. The aim was not only to filter out violations but also to ensure a safer traffic environment in the long term, especially for food delivery drivers who often work under pressure in dense traffic.
Continuous Inspections Expected
According to authorities, regular inspections can be expected in the future. The goal is to develop a sustainable and safe operational environment that considers the interests of all community members. Future campaigns will be supported by circulars, guidelines, and awareness programs, providing clear regulations for couriers and their employers alike.
Closing Thoughts
The delivery sector plays a crucial role in Dubai's dynamic urban life, but it should focus not only on speed but also on safety. The RTA and its partners have sent a clear message: adhering to traffic rules is not optional but mandatory for everyone, especially for those working daily on the city's roads.
