UAE Seizes 106 Cars for Noise Violations

UAE Traffic Violations: 106 Vehicles Seized Over Loud Noise and Illegal Modifications
Transportation authorities in the United Arab Emirates are consistently working to strictly enforce traffic regulations to protect public order and the peace of the population. In line with this, 106 vehicles were seized in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain in January 2024 for significant engine and body modifications and for generating disruptive noise in residential areas.
Why is the operation of noisy vehicles problematic?
Noise pollution not only causes inconvenience but also seriously impacts people's mental and physical well-being. Brigadier Mahmoud Yusuf Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, pointed out that the noise generated by loud vehicles can incite panic, stress, and frustration among drivers, pedestrians, and local residents. It particularly affects children, the elderly, and individuals facing health problems.
Strict penalties for violators
Under traffic laws, operating noisy vehicles is considered a severe infraction, leading to the following penalties:
a. Driving loud vehicles: A Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points on the driver's license.
b. Unauthorized engine or body modifications: A Dh1,000 fine, 12 black points, and 30-day vehicle impoundment.
c. Vehicle reclaim fee: According to Abu Dhabi regulations, Dh10,000 is required for the release of an impounded vehicle.
If the fine is not paid within three months, the vehicle will be sold at a public auction.
Warning for young drivers
Most cases are linked to young drivers who often modify their vehicles to improve performance or appearance. However, authorities have made it clear that unauthorized modifications, especially those causing noise pollution, are subject to zero tolerance. Brigadier Mahmoud emphasized that Abu Dhabi Police will not condone behaviors that pose a public hazard, disrupt order, or lead to accident risks.
