As summer months approach, when electricity consumption in the United Arab Emirates surges due to cooling systems, the emirate of Sharjah has taken another step to strengthen its power grid. The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has fully commissioned a new power plant in the Al Hoshi area, costing 23 million dirhams, representing one of the most significant infrastructure developments in the emirate in recent years.
Advanced Technology for Uninterrupted Summer Supply
The newly inaugurated Al Hoshi power plant aims to significantly reduce power outages, especially during the hottest summer periods. The 33/11 kV facility is equipped with the latest technology to enhance energy efficiency and ensure continuous electricity supply to surrounding residential areas and business centers. According to SEWA, the power plant is a key component in the emirate's electrical grid enhancement.

Residents of Al Hoshi and nearby areas are already experiencing improvements in supply reliability. SEWA emphasized that the project not only reduces power outages but also helps to meet future increased demand without supply interruptions.

In the city of Kalba, six completed public lighting projects totaled over 24.4 million dirhams. These investments not only bring aesthetic improvements but directly contribute to road safety, making the area more livable for locals. SEWA plans six more lighting projects in Kalba this year, which will further enhance urbanization efforts.
Expanding Water Supply and Desalination
Along with energy supply, the water network is under continuous development. SEWA has established over 3,200 new water connections this year to keep pace with the expansion of residential areas and commercial zones. Additionally, a massive water network expansion project valued at 50 million dirhams will begin in Kalba to accommodate rising water demand.
Another notable development is occurring in the Hamriyah area, where a new seawater desalination plant is under construction, capable of producing 90 million gallons of water daily. This facility will play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable water supply for the emirate's residents.
