Sharjah Battles Scorching 50°C Temperatures

Extreme Heat Wave Strikes Sharjah Again
Residents of the United Arab Emirates are again facing extreme heat: on July 14th, temperatures in the Sharjah Al Dhaid area reached 50.2°C in the afternoon. This phenomenon is not unique, as the country is currently experiencing the Jamrat Al-Qaid season, which astronomers note is the hottest and driest period of the year. This time is especially known for temperatures exceeding 50°C during the day and the so-called 'samoom' desert hot winds, which further exacerbate the perception of heat.
Record Highs Reached as Early as May
Although the peak of summer officially started on July 3rd, thermometers already showed extreme values in May: on May 24th, 51.6°C was recorded in the Al Ain Sweihan area, marking the highest temperature in the UAE so far in 2025.
Increased Caution Required for Road and Home Safety
Authorities continuously warn drivers to regularly check the condition of their vehicles, especially the tires. The risk of tire accidents increases with extreme heat, leading to serious road incidents. The hot asphalt and high thermal load rapidly damage tire structures, making preventive maintenance especially vital now.
Locked Vehicles Pose a Severe Risk for Children
Officials have also emphasized that parents should never leave their children in the car, even for a minute. The internal temperature of a car can rise to lethal levels within minutes, even with the window slightly open. This is particularly true this season, when the external temperature already exceeds 50 degrees.
Caution Advised with Household Appliances
Due to increasing energy consumption, authorities have provided advice on the safe use of electrical appliances and gas connections. Overheating devices, poorly ventilated sockets, or improperly stored gas cylinders can pose serious fire risks. The aim of the warnings is to encourage people to handle devices that are under more stress due to the heat with extra caution.
Tips for Surviving the Hottest Part of Summer
Avoid outdoor activities between 11 AM and 5 PM
Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty
Use high-SPF sunscreen and wear light, bright clothing
Regularly check your vehicle, particularly tires and the cooling system
Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle
Pay attention to household appliances overheating and use them with proper ventilation
The summer season in the United Arab Emirates not only brings heat but also creates genuinely challenging conditions for daily life. By adhering to preventative measures, tragedies and accidents can be avoided, allowing safe passage through this extreme heat period.
