Record Profits for Dubai's Salik in 2024
Dubai's road toll service provider, Salik Company PJSC, reported significant profits in the first nine months of 2024. By the end of the third quarter, the company achieved a net profit of 822 million dirhams, with a substantial portion of its total revenue, 174.8 million dirhams, coming from fines, representing 10.7 percent of the total revenue. Salik's results are remarkable, especially concerning third-quarter performance, where they experienced a record number of revenue-generating trips.
In the first nine months of 2024, Salik registered 355.6 million trips, marking a 5.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The number of revenue-generating trips also increased in the third quarter, rising by 5.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. This quarter brought the best third-quarter results in the company's history, showcasing the stability of the Salik system and its role in Dubai's transportation.
Several factors could be behind the growth. Dubai's economic development, expansion of infrastructure, and the growth in the population and tourists all contribute to increased usage of the Salik system. Additionally, the company continuously refines and modernizes its systems to be more efficient and user-friendly, thereby encouraging more drivers to use the toll system.
Revenues from fines generated by Salik also represent a significant portion, as driver negligence or disregard for regulations often leads to penalties. This type of revenue also indicates that the system's rules are strictly enforced, promoting the smooth and safe flow of traffic on Dubai's busy roads.
Overall, Salik's performance reflects the dynamic development of Dubai's infrastructure and the continuously growing transportation demands. The toll system is an integral part of the city's transportation strategy, which helps reduce congestion and contributes to ensuring sustainable urban mobility.
